I just now finished watching The Last Samurai (03) and thought about the Clavell novel:)
An excellent book, worth a re-read👍

As politically incorrect a genre as one is likely to find.

It's like the sudden appearance of a raggedy white dude makes every local forget generation's worth of experience in the area

I never expected to like The Last Samurai but it was quite good.

Without spoiling I thought the final scenes were a copout but I get why it went down that way from a narrative perspective
I would have preferred the ending I was being sold on the whole time though...

08 really beat a lot of people up...
I haven’t read it yet but isn’t War and Peace a very long novel?
