The worst TV Doctor of all

Who was the worst TV Doctor of them all? Who lost the most patients? I would argue that it's probably one of the characters from the soap operas because losing patients gives them a chance to chew up the scenery and cry before going back to work to lose more. They also battle alcoholism and can have stories where they're operating drunk and somehow are able to get their careers back. Primetime TV Doctors usually save the day at the last minute and are considerably less flawed.

I was thinking from more dramatic stuff. One of the Ben Casey/Kildare/House/ER type docs. One that we're supposed to take seriously, but you wouldn't want to go to in real life.

Was Frank Burns portrayed as being bad as a doctor as far as techical skills or was it just his human character?

Yes, it's his personality that is most memorable. A line from Wikipedia "In the TV series, Burns is a firm believer in military discipline and continues to fancy himself a superior surgeon, but his actions invariably reveal his incompetence and require one of the other surgeons to prevent him from making fatal mistakes. "

Dr. Doug Murphy on Scrubs. The running joke was that he'd often accidentally kill his patients and eventually he becomes a pathologist working with dead bodies because that was what he was good at.

Well, House, obviously. He was a stone cold sociopath who put his patients at risk for the sake of solving puzzles. Also, he almost killed his ex-GF and baby by deliberately driving his car into her living room in a blind rage, but then was able to keep practicing, anyway.

And maybe Mark Green of ER. He deliberately refused to resuscitate a dying patient (playing judge, jury and executioner), and just let him die.
