Quite a character. Rest in peace, Mr Torn.

reply

love that Rip Torn - Norman Mailer fight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AzmhorISf4&t=111s

reply

Proof that most "fistfights" are stupid.

reply

Most fistfights are stupid but women getting involved and making a scene is even more stupid

When women see their men fighting they should cross their fingers and back off

Then, if their man is losing they should smash a lamp on the other guy...that is all

That lady in white was an obnoxious drama queen

reply

It was more than just a fistfight. Torn was hitting him with an hammer, he could've killed him. The fact that Mailer bit off a chunk of his ear shows that he feared for his safety.

reply

Boys will be boys

It's fairly common to assault a guy and wind up good buddies after the dust settles

I met a very close friend after we beat each other bloody...we are pals to this day, 25 years later, he married my 2nd cousin

Boys fight

Ladies should stay out of it

reply

Uhm no, I'm not going to stay out of it if some guy in a drug-induced psychosis is trying to kill my husband.

I don't think they ended up as besties, his family was actually traumatized by the event.

That lady broke up the fight. Good for her.

reply

Anyone who interferes only makes things worse.

reply

My HS gym coach always let us boys 'work it out' to exhaustion...I suppose he'd be arrested today but he was right

I made some good friends after a big dust up with them

reply

Right, just as long as there are no sissy weapons... Use fists, pussies!

reply

Exactly

reply

Funny man

RIP.

reply

RIP to one of my favorites

RIP...sad to hear it

Well poop to you too pal!

reply

I had the pleasure of seeing him on the stage a couple of times in the 1970s. Just a great stage actor.

reply

Sounds like great memories

reply

I've always enjoyed his campiness, but that fistfight video has kind of ruined it. He seemed like a psycho.

reply

Most men are pretty crazy, and no more than the women here (real talk)

But what I saw in that video was beyond embarrassing and any healthy male would say the same
Frankly, they both had the chance to seriously injure the other and neither took the chance...they were both scared, don't make it more than it was

reply

If heads are smashed in and pieces of ear are bitten off I'm not making it more than it was. This wasn't even the result of a real argument, but for "pretend".

I prefer to stay away from crazy people like that, thank you very much.

reply

You're welcome..?

reply

I don't think Rip was pretending.

reply

The lines between reality and fiction were definitely blurred.

Btw, did you see the Columbo episode Rip was in?

reply

That was the first thing of thought of. He wins the lottery and doesn't want to share it with his estranged wife.

reply

So what did you think of that episode?

reply

more of a fun episode I thought.

reply

A bit too silly for my taste, though. I definitely prefer the ones from the 70s.

reply

the series got much lighter in the 1990s

reply

Hmm, I wonder if Rip is now in Judgement City?
And who, I wonder, will be helping him in the task of Defending Your Life (1991)?

reply

How many days are they looking at?

reply

Hey Ckid (701).....great comment and great connection to one of my favorite Rip Torn movies. Rest in peace Mr. Torn.

You were one of the funniest ever. I even had followed someone's tweet handle, "Rip Torn Outlives"

reply

I haven't seen this. Thanks

reply

"Payday" is a fine movie, 8/10

As for "The Larry Sanders Show" - its my favorite TV show, yet, I barely watch any, but this, as well as "Its Garry Shandling's Show" were very creative and well-written, but Rip Torn stole the show. He was always funny, which many can't do simply with a script.
