Should rich people give to the poor?

Or find ways to spend their money and enjoy the finer things in life?

reply

They are under no obligation to give to the poor, but I think it's a good idea if they give to charities which help the poor.

Both

they should create a higher minimum wage, a better health insurance system, better public schools.

reply

If they do that, they need to stop raising the costs of living. Otherwise, what's the point?

reply

The cost of living rises due to inflation, the point is the rich should get taxed more. But then a lot of humans are selfish so you have these tax loopholes and the Cayman Islands.

reply

Rich people should spend money to create a better society for everyone.

Believe or not, this is a true story of mine. At the age of 6, I gathered some poor children in the play yard to talk about "The rich should help the poor, because every person deserves a happy life." (I forgot the exact words). As I recall, their responses and the following discussion went quite well. But when it ended and I was ready to leave, I found my shoes gone missing.

Should you blame the poor or blame the system?

reply

when it comes to individuals, it is a personal issue, but when you look the gini coefficient, it is a matter of the system.

reply

Agree. Charity is good, social progress is better.

Yes, if they have any empathy for those in poverty. I wonder how many billionairs contribute to charities that help the poor Quite a few I hope.

reply

Yes, any rich person who buys multiple properties, luxury cars, jets, jewels, etc and does NOT give to the poor should spend eternity chained up in the bowels of hell. Unconscionable not to use wealth to help those in need.

right on.

Should other people decide how you spend YOUR money?

If you force a rich person to give away money then it isn't charity. They aren't "giving." It is being taken away. A large portion of taxes are ostensibly collected for programs geared toward helping the poor and the richer you are, the more taxes sting you. So plenty of the rich people's money is going to the poor. The vast majority of money that goes to charities is from rich people.

Then there is the idiotic notion that rich people are just sitting on their money, swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck. Rich people invest. They make their money make money. That means investments, funding projects, etc. That is circulation which means jobs. People tried to say that "Trickle Down Economics" was "voodoo economics" when the very foundation of capitalism itself is that money trickles down, around, up, over, and everywhere.

People who want to tell other people how to live and what to do are totalitarians. Busy-bodies. Charity must come from the heart, not compelled by others who want to feel good about themselves by way of what "good" they can force others to do. Forced charity isn't charity.

Know someone who needs help? Help them. Don't think of ways to get the other guy to help them. Do good things yourself and don't worry about other people's business.

"Should other people decide how you spend YOUR money?"

If it gets to the point that you have a super yacht worth 20 million , you've obviously cheated the system in some way (morally not legally) therefore its not your money and you should use it to help society.

Your mindset is a dangerous one. Cloaked in good intentions.
