do you drink instant coffee ??

No. Canada is the land of a million coffee shops.

reply

I do.

reply

Nescafe ??

reply

Yes.

reply

We have a Nespresso coffee machine in our kitchen, but I do have instant every now & then.

reply

we have a Keurig

reply

Oooh, K-cups!

reply

they are a pain

reply

How come?

reply

not recyclable so i feel guilty.

reply

Ah, whereas Nespresso pods are (he says unwittingly taking the moral high ground, lol).

reply

They say by the end of 2020, all pods will be recyclable. For someone who usually only drinks one cup a day, it doesn't make sense to use drip machine.

reply

We use mainly on weekends and in the winter I noticed.

reply

A few times in a pinch
It's not good

reply

Haven't had coffee in years.

reply

Yes, freeze dried at home. Drip coffee at work though... and Keurig

reply

Apparently Keurig is supposed to be Dutch for "excellence". It's not...

reply

close enough

https://m.interglot.com/nl/en/keurig

reply

Not really. It doesn't even mean "excellent". The name Keurig creates the image of a well-dressed coffee machine that cleans up after itself. This is Madonna's "I'm Sorry" all over again.😫

reply

So what does the word mean ?

reply

It mostly means neat or tidy. In a different context it can have a slightly different meaning as mentioned in the link. The only example I can think of that comes closest to "excellent" is "Keurig gedaan", which means "Well done".

reply

the machine is neat and tidy that i can verify.

reply

So it does clean up after itself???

reply

this is no mess except for the cup and the pod is not recyclable.

reply

Okay, then I take back all I said. It really IS "keurig".

reply

What I don't like about Keurig is, from my experience, you get a smallish cuppa joe, and if you want to linger over a long morning with coffee, you have to burn at least two of those things, maybe three. I feel guilty for wanting more than one. And I don't like the recyclable angle either, although I'm surrounded by unrecyclable stuff, so I won't get on my high-horse over it.

reply

Ah, but you have to remember that frugality is a typical Dutch trait!

reply

I had no idea 😊

In a world with Energy Drinks, I'm not sure why people would want to have Instant Coffee. If it's an Economics thing, I totally respect that, if IC is cheaper than Ground. I'm a Melita guy. If I used a reusable filter I'd be even closer to ideal. And grind the coffee into a reusable container, even closer.

reply

i drink instant at home. i drink 'real' coffee at work.

i'm fine with instant generally. i know people get very sniffy about it, but i find its taste perfectly acceptable.

the only times i'll turn my nose up at a cup is when it's weak, & i can always control that with instant of course.

reply

You buy a jar of Folger's Crystals, you put it in the cupboard, you forget about it. Then later on when you need it, it's there. It lasts forever. It's freeze-dried. Freeze-dried Crystals.
