Why are Indian movies 2 1/2 hours long and have great scores on IMDb?

Can't they tell a story in 2 hours or less? And why do they keep giving 10's on IMDb?

reply

Do you have an example or two?

Enthiran (2010)
Pather Panchali (1955)
Nayak: The Hero (1966)
Nayakan (1987)
Thalapathi (1991)

They're not all 10s, just highly rated enough by the people who've seen them to merit a high ranking.

reply

That should have said "giving 10s" not "getting 10s." I changed it. Also crazy how I posted my list a few seconds after yours and we didn't duplicate a single movie.

because t series is taking over the internet, people in india are getting online easier

reply

What is T series?

reply

It goes back many decades. They provide relatively cheap entertainment to the poor for the entire evening. Bollywood movies have a large and loyal fanbase all over the world and it isn't very critical.

Most of them are crap, but as some around here already know, I have a great fondness for a few of them.

reply

I know this about you, but the same can be said about Hollywood - plenty of crap but a few gems mixed in.

reply

Ain't that the truth!

reply

I keep thinking about two things: how can they keep financing all of these epic films and don't they have an independent film industry?

reply

There are many, many Indians.

Yes, they do.

reply

True - more than a billion.
