Anyone else kind of sick of Ellen?

She’s talented and a good public figure but I think she is a bit over exposed

talent? talented at what?

reply

She’s a decent stand up

Yah, 25 years ago

Humor is subjective so she may not be your cup of tea but many (including me) find her very funny. Also she brings out a fun side of pretty much all celebrities that come on her show and both she and them seem to be having a blast. And although she rarely performs any more, in her day she was a truly gifted stand up comedian.

kathy griffin is cooler, lol

I never watch her show, so no. I like Ellen well enough but I don’t watch tv at the time of day when her show is on. I don’t like celebrity chat shows much. Steven Colbert is good until the guests come out then it usually gets boring fast. I like Bill Maher show because the conversation is lively and interesting and Bill keeps it moving.

I don't watch her show either, for the same reasons. But I do like Ellen. I think she's very funny. Occasionally a video of her funniest moments on the show will come up on my recommendations on YouTube, and I'll watch.

I used to watch her first show, the sitcom. I'm not big into sitcoms, but it was one of the better ones.

I don’t like the kind of ‘humor’ where The host makes jokes a their guest’s expense. Like makes fun of the things they say or laughs at their mistakes. I don’t know if anyone gets what I mean, but she does that on her show and I don’t want to see it.

reply

How do you feel about Groucho Marx? He did that.

reply

Not a fan of that, so probably not.

Yeah, it's weird. Ellen is friends with a lot of these people so it's kinda like we're ease-dropping on some good natured ball busting. Except this is an interview on TV, we don't know these people, so it just comes off as kind of mean. Which is part of a big gripe I have with Ellen's interview style. She will regularly get wrapped up in talking to people about parties and events that they've gone to, small talk one might share with a friend over the phone, that has absolutely no context with the viewer. And lots of times, they'll actually get carried away on "shop talk" about the behind scenes nature of show business which is totally unrelateable to us the viewer. It's like the audience doesn't matter or factor into the show, we're just supposed to watch Ellen sit there and buddy up with her pals and be grateful we get to listen in. The whole atmosphere is very weird.

reply

I always thought that was kind of the appeal. There are plenty of standard interview talk shows on and this one is a bit off the beaten path. I don't get the impression that her guests take offense to any of the ribbing which all seems good natured.

reply

I've always been sick of her

I never could get into Ellen--period! Comedy and humor on TV or in the movies, or in g general, have never been my cup of tea, either.

reply

I like Ellen but I can't stand to watch her show because it's so damn noisy! Her audience yells and screams like they're at a sports arena, baying like crazy fans. She also plays on that for too long every time - most of the show is taken up with her wryly smiling and doing something that keeps the audience screaming. If you cut the show down to its actual content it would be about ten minutes long. Tedious.

reply

Good point, Prelude. I haven't seen much of her, but I've noticed the same things you've noticed.

reply

Yes. This sort of thing has gotten far worse in recent years. The show is very obnoxious now. I don't know if it's possible for a talk show to jump the shark but hers certainly has. No substance, very stale, and very formulaic. The same thing day in and day out. The lazy giveaways. The stupid game segments. Twitch dancing. This and that. Same damn thing every day. Show used to be a lot more fresh. And Ellen clearly doesn't care anymore. The only time she takes a break from sitting there bored is to preach her politics at us or bitch about how bitter she still is about her early days in the business. And the whole thing is one big endless celebrity circle jerk. This insane cult of Ellen worship. It's really creepy. Show was still pretty entertaining back around the 10th season or so.

reply

Yep, she's also become just the next Oprah when Oprah's show also became just a screaming, hysterical fan audience and prize giveaways - "YOU get a TV, and YOU get a TV! And YOUUU get a TV!!!!" "YAYAAAYAYYYYYAAAAAHHHHHHH" (or car, or cruise, etc etc)

Now it's Ellen's formula too. Ugh.

I always found her pleasant but she's not much of a blip on my radar

I do admire her success and honesty about her sexual preferences, that was probably not easy

She's also pretty funny when she dances
