We often hear about the good countries, but what about the worst? I love Asian Cinema, especially Japanese Cinema, but India makes the absolute worst films. I've seen about 30 of their movies and I'd say maybe 2 were good. None of them would even crack my top 500.
India cinema is viewed less as traditional film writing and more as sweeping epics. Every film combines pretty much every genre together, includes musical numbers, wont be under 120 minutes, and has like 30 plots. Bollywood cinema is typically very hard for western audiences to digest, simply because they’re so much. Gangs Of Wasseypur Parts 1 & 2 are both masterpieces.
I haven't seen Gangs Of Wasseypur, but I agree with you on your points. It's hard to find an Indian film that isn't less than two hours, most I've seen are 2 1/2. They just look like music videos with the quick editing and Dutch camera angles.
