I always thought that it was banned in the UK until about 1970, however, Google claims that this was a myth and it was never actually illegal, just heavily regulated.

Here in Holland there actually was a ban until 2005. I've only had it once, I don't think it's all that special.

Ya, I think its nasty. Its just high proof brandy infused with herbs. I guess if someone likes liqueurs, they would enjoy Absinthe. I will say that the traditional preparation is pretty cool though.
