Weirdest and cool bands of all time .

I found some of Radiohead’s stuff super weird and cool . Also the gorillaz , slipknot and offspring

some of the following are my all time favourite bands. some i only know passingly, have an album or two.

all of them are pretty weird by some standards, i'd say.

can - the greatest of the krautrock bands imo.
faust
neu
boyd rice/non (questionable politics there, i've heard, but i really like some of his noise records)
coil
robert wyatt
soft machine
scott walker (started off as a teen idol crooner, ended up as a noise merchant maniac. big favourite of mine).
popul vuh
cluster
sun city girls
pere ubu
nurse with wound
current 93
cabaret voltaire
captain beefheart
bongwater
gastr del sol

Plenty of left-field stuff there. The last couple of Scott Walker albums were incredibly demanding, yet almost hypnotic.

from climate of hunter in 1984 onward, everything he released became progressively uglier & darker & more difficult to listen to. i loved almost all of it - certainly not the kind of thing i listen to all the time, but it really scratches an itch when i'm in the mood to hear it.

cue from the drift might be my favourite scott moment:

Top pick!
Beat The Clock, No.1 Song In Heaven, This Town Ain’t Big Enough..., Boots.

reply

Did you see Ron Mael in the video for Number 1 Song in Heaven 😆

reply

Oh yes, I was 12 back then. Weren't they called Half Nelson before they took off?

reply

Yep I think they were 👍

reply

Totally, unique. Genius even.

reply

They're good. Always liked them.

Lords of Acid.... classic industrial rock with a bigger impact than most realize

Boards of Canada... Almost-psychedelic group that sounds like techno but they are just really good with manipulating & mixing analog sound

Bjork... The best Diva. Go all the way back to her first band (Sugarcubes) and even her childhood music for the full picture

The Orb... great techno, very easy to listen to

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult... Similar to Lords of Acid, except each album released is a concept album representing a genre or fusion.

The Avalanches... very lively iconic music with silly lyrics that doesn't get enough attention

Weezer!!! A classic. Great songwriters and musicians in this band.

Noooo! I can't ever unsee this! Now YouTube has this in my history and will forever be suggesting similar songs! Why? Why didn't you warn us?

reply

I did! I said they were super weird AND super cool!

reply

Arghhh! I thought you meant David Bowie super cool, not this!

reply

It's even better than that! Don't you want those cool, golden shoes as well???

reply

Hmmm🤔, I’m listening...

Jefferson Airplane. My favorite so I take every opportunity to shoehorn them into any music conversation.
Marty Balin was the Leader in their formative years but Grace Slick stole the spotlight with two monster hits from Surrealistic Pillow, their 2nd album. Then Paul Kantner asserted himself with songwriting as well as vocals, pushing Marty a little bit to the side. Meanwhile, Jorma Kaukonen was a fourth lead instrument (along with three vocalists) and he and Jack Casady had plans of their own eventually.
And their first drummer was a guitarist named Skip Spence, who has a cult following. Anyone who listens to Grace Slick tracks knows this chick is pushing buttons and off her rocker ! But she's a Rocker ! What a fun band of disparate spirits.
