I just noticed LetThemEatCake hasn't posted in months.

Look into your crystal ball, where did they go?

Never-ending Cleopatra viewing marathon.

😊😊😊

reply

Damn. I haven't even seen it once.

reply

They didn't realize until then that this website was not made before 1970.

reply

may be he watched all the movies made before 1970.

reply

Probably because its a sock account.

reply

was he the user who started a few threads about how much he hated criterion releases?
perhaps he's on a cyber strike until the criterion streaming service shuts down.

he seemed like a rather needlessly negative & dour sort to me.
i can admire people who hold strong opinions, i suppose, but, if i am thinking of the right guy, he seemed to cross the boundary into a sort of pointless cynicism & antagonism.

reply

I don't recall any thread about that. I just remember they posted a lot.

reply

Yep, you nailed it
It hated me and I was proud of that;)

reply

There were a couple of times in the early days here where I considered it a badge of honor to be put on Ignore by a troll.

reply

True, it does feel good

reply

He was a troll. He should be missed like a kidney stone is missed.

reply

"he seemed to cross the boundary into a sort of pointless cynicism & antagonism."

Yes, that's the one. Needlessly negative and dour too.

reply

There might be some phony baloney, but a lot of Criterion is great.. Sometimes when I see that logo in animation before a movie, I already think "This has a chance to be special"

reply

i agree.
i don't always love the kind of prestige film that criterion often releases, but they've released tons of things i do enjoy & i think their streaming service has been an absolute home run. chock full of great stuff. & they actually have a lot of the extras from their discs - commentaries, special features - streaming on the site s well, which is a nice rare treat.

reply

Exactly. Even though I'm conscious about this, I'm sure in some way it influences my perception, even if its very slight. If you go into a movie expecting greatness, chances are you'll look for examples that justify that decision, especially when "everyone else" says its so great.
