The Doors (Oliver Stone)

I didn't like it when I had only read one book 25 years ago, and now that I'm older, have read at least 10 Doors/Morrison books, and learning more about movie, its even WORSE that I could have imagined.

Then again, he ruined JFK. I think he's a CIA-type stooge to take on great topics, and then discredit them with lies (not artistic license). Not when you can't catch the essence of any of the "bios"

The Kilmer performance was excellent👍

I thought he was a caricature. The way he walked, talked... Check out the interviews. He's deliberate, and slow-talking, but it was usually on the road, no sleep, or during the Miami trial, and still far apart.

Although I do think Kilmer did a great job on the voice and the mannerisms, the film is over the top sensationalism. I find it easily explained by the Ed Sullivan show scene. I’ve watched the real footage 100 times and The Doors sing Light My Fire just as they would have any other night on stage and you get a little grin from Robbie when Jim sings the correct lyrics including “higher.”

Oliver Stone version has Jim belting out “higher” and putting his face in the camera then the camera doing a close up on his groin area, whatever. The entire film is grossly exaggerated in this same manner and worse.

What’s you’re issue with the doors movie ?

reply

Too many lies. If you were to read, listen, watch him, you would probably confuse the two.

I have wondered if what you've said about Stone is true, regarding being CIA, etc.

I have wondered this same thing about the media. I used to think that is was a massive jewish conspiracy, since that's a fake religious cult that views outsiders as evil, but I'm no longer sure. I do like your idea that taking a serious topic and making a well done, but bad, movie can discredit interest in the topic.

Very smart. Even if it's not propaganda, an empowered idiot can still achieve the same result.

My Big Question, Lately:

I used to be an avid reader. Then, in the late 90s I noticed this shift in fiction to what is now called "SJW" topics and characters. In science fiction and fantasy books strong male characters got replaced by female ones. Now, that is very common.

I enjoy creative writing and can only write what I'm interested in. So, I want to know how MASS NUMBERS of male authors switch from writing males characters to female ones. I don't believe a male can even do this effectively and that it would be difficult.

Do you believe the CIA (whatever) is behind the massive SJW stuff in the media? Are authors agents or are the publishing companies run by agents indirectly forcing authors and filmmakers to make the same material?

Curious about your opinion.

Before I get started, I want to ask if others notice how the truth always comes out wayyyy too late. Psychologically, they know about our attention, they know how to take advantage of the chaos, and usually try to make money off it. When there's a retraction, most people might not see it, and many don't. Most importantly, a first impression sticks with you. In my real life (or even online), when there's something debatable, I'll ask "What is your source?" and they don't know. Its always "I saw it somewhere on the internet, or read it in a magazine".

Right before I saw your post, I saw the story on Sandra Bland. Local authorities kept this cell phone video from Sandra Bland a secret for 4 years. Local journalists WFAA fought to get it released. Sandra Bland knew her rights. She never should've been arrested and threatened in the first place. A gross abuse of power from this officer.

You brought up Israel, and I'll add to that. Israel could wipe out the terrorists if they wanted to. Fact is, Israel benefits from Hamas and other Jihadists. They provide legitimacy to the Occupation and Israel's violence against Palestinians. Netanyahu has no better ally than Hamas.

There has been a long history (all over the world) where people embed themselves and slowly change the truth, etc.. Why is it that the NYT and Washington Post ALWAYS get the breaking story? Because its full of intelligence sources. They won't bite the hand that feeds them. And again about truth. Those who spoke the truth about something important with consequences, lets say the (2nd) Iraq War.. Why were they all fired? Chris Hedges from the NYT. Phil Donahue, Cenk Uygur, Ashley Banfield - from the so-called "liberal" stations. There is no liberal anything. Its all financially biased. But of course like any market, when one is taken up (say Fox), then they go to the flip side, until that's taken up quantitatively. Heck, just look at their commercials - war profiteers. (I have to stop, since my character lim

About your last point, they don't even HAVE to be told. They know what side the bread is buttered. I asked an editor (friend) who works for the SF Chronicle. He said, "I already know what I can or cannot say". Programmed.

INFILTRATION (older than prostitution)

The SJW thing is a sham. It's more like "trendy justice warriors". How can all these people do complete 180s? Is that morality? I didn't know a person (or even a country, hemisphere) can change on a dime. But I don't believe that they believe it - they just don't want any push-back.. So many times on forums (usually not here), I'll get a private message basically saying "You know, I agree with everything you said, but I'm too tired to fight", what if it was turned around? I'm always suspicious of group-think, especially the "in" group.

You know, its usually the reasonable sounding people who are the biggest liars. They might be going through a lull, professionally or financially, so they have to make waves. Robert Reich (who was the under-secretary under Pres. Clinton) kept going on and on about Bernie Sanders, but then in a second, was flying the Hillary flag (when the cheating was over). Where were all those silly pussies hats?

WMDS (oops!). Ties to Al-KraKKKa.. The same "intelligence" agencies that said "slam dunk!". They know once you are in, you can't get out. A fake benevolent imperialism with a smile on the face, "We have to give them democracy" - its always for a country with oil... I knew the country had no real liberals when Obama took us from 2 wars to SEVEN... Punished whistle-blowers more than anyone before. Notice how hard the power hits anyone who exposes war crimes.

Years from now, they'll change their story to "The Palestinian Holocaust", but even that will depend on the guts of people. Many times its those same agent provocateurs who want people to give up, "There's nothing we can do about it!", so that people become apathetic and cynical, so they are basically impotent.

(The character limits aren't enough for a REAL "movie" discussion)

Political correctness is the ultimate prejudice. The power decides what a minority group can or cannot handle? Indians vs. Native Americans (they don't like it here). McCarthyism is bad regardless. Unfortunately, coercion is very tempting, but what happens when its "your" side that gets fucked.

"My career isn't hot. Let me get political, let me be 'controversial'" (and it might work)

I think I've only seen this movie once. I like The Doors about as much as anybody, but not enough where I look for the movie to reflect their biography. I thought Val killed his part (in a good way) and I got a kick out of Kyle Mc as Ray. I like the movie for being entertaining. Maybe a biographical documentary would play out much differently. Ken Burns, here's your next project.

"Ken Burns, here's your next project."

That was interesting.

I think it's really interesting that a person working for a science fiction magazine knows what topics are allowed. I can understand obvious topics such as those pro genocide or stories favoring slavery, but if it's deeper than that stuff, the pressure must be coming from somewhere.

Evidence of mass media changes indicate a guiding force.

I think that's especially true when you look at movies and books that are typically being consumed by young males who look to characters as role models. The way to make money is to make that media appeal to the demographic. But, if suddenly what appeals is being eliminated, it goes against business and then must be something else.

I'm not a fan of Oliver Stone, although I did eventually see The Doors. Passed on JFK.
