Cover songs you prefer to the original

If this has a thread already, sorry.

One song that I seem to prefer most of the covers that I've heard is Come Together. It's not that I don't like The Beatles, but I don't care for their version of their song. I really liked Joe Cocker's version in Across the Universe, but I also prefer his version of With a Little Help From My Friends.

I also like Chris Cornell's cover of Nothing Compares 2 U better than both Prince and Sinead.

Perhaps because it has a more 80's feel to it I like Pseudo Echo's version of Funky Town over Lipps Inc.

Again with the 80's I much prefer Soft Cell's Tainted Love to Gloria Jones.

Even though I am a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen, I like Dave Alvin & The Guilty Men's cover of Seeds more than Bruce's original version.

I prefer Fancy's version of "Wild Thing" more than The Troggs
I also prefer Kim Wilde's version of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" over The Supremes's version
I also prefer Frijid Pink's version of "House Of The Rising Sun" over The Animals' version

I actually think both versions of "Funky Town" are great and it's hard to decide which one I like better.

I don't know if I've heard this one. When I was younger I really liked Oh Well's cover of it, and I still do just not as much.

Totally agreed, speaking as another Prince fan, but many of us will have been first exposed to the song via the Chaka Khan version. It was only years later that I was surprised to discover Prince wrote it (much like 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and 'Manic Money').

You're welcome. I don't know how well known he is outside of sweden but pretty much all the songs he covered during his time in idol could place in this thread in my opinion. Wicked Game was another one where he just destroyed the original.
