My moral dilemma

I won't give details, in case the person reads this. I won't even reveal the gender.

I need help with something very expensive I couldn't afford. It's nothing essential, just something I'd like, not something I need. Someone very kindly helped me for free, but didn't do a very good job.

I still need help, and now I can afford it. And I want to pay someone else, someone I know will do a much better job. But I'd feel really bad, I'd feel like I'm betraying the person who so kindly helped me for free.

I did offer to pay them back for their work, and they said that wouldn't be necessary, but maybe I should've insisted harder. Of course I haven't told them I want to pay someone else.

What should I do?

A little white lie may be just the thing...
You will have to be creative and having no important details that's all I have to offer

Good luck Mike

There's no moral dilemma. They agreed to help you for free and they turned down a later offer for payment. You can express gratitude yet still pay someone to do a better job now. I'm sure the other party will understand the limits of the initial terms. Give them that much credit.

Honesty is the best policy.
