Are Fiats good cars?
nm
shareThey look like grenades to me...one hit and they explode
shareThey are not big sellers here in Canada from what I can see.
shareAs long as you use cars normally and change them after 3 to 6 years... all mainstream car brands are good enough.
I don't understand the over fixation on what car brand is the best, the most reliable, etc. Most of car brands are the same only with different badges. Some even use the same engines. Fiat engines are used on Chevy cars, and vice versa, etc. Standard practice. All comes down to users' preference, really.
Toyota cars can also break. They are not magical. I love Toyotas and Japanese brands in general. When cars are still simple and no electonics, they actually made better more reliable cheaper cars. But nowadays, cars are basically electronic devices on wheels. Subjected to heat and cold and rattles and bumps. No electronics can survive that for so long, no matter what brand.
I hope you’re wrong because I’m really counting on my 8 year-old Toyota not breaking.
Magic is also welcome, but not necessary.
If you really fond of driving extremely reliable cars, you can choose from non electronics-laden Toyotas. Like the trusty Land Cruisers or the war-proven Hiluxes. They are technologically simpler with really well built mechanical stuffs that don't break easily.
As long as electonics are kept at minimum, most cars are generally better at reability. But if you like to drive fully equipped bleeding edge tech cars, air suspensions, dual-clutch trasmission, touchscreens, motorised everything, advanced auto-climate controls with heated and cooled seats and steering wheel, self-parking, hybrids, regenerative braking, etc. even the Japanese can't defeat physics. Nothing to do with brands.
It doesn’t have any of that super techy stuff, just cruise control.
shareMost of that stuff is mandated by law.
shareI'm still driving my 17-year-old Saturn, no bells and whistles, although I wouldn't mind having one of those back-up cameras. It has been a great car - nothing cool or sexy about it, but it has been very reliable, which is no small feat in MN winters. By the time it dies, I'll probably be too old to drive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
shareThe backup camera is definitely helpful. I may add one at some point.

You pay what you get, they are cheap and cheap is what you get.
As a whole, no, they are not "good cars". Their general quality is sub par, especially in assembly and parts used, but again, you are paying very little for them.
Their style is above par.
Customer care and service is nonexistant.
You can also do much worse in the same segment for a similar budget.
