I used to use IMDB most of my life before the authoritarian UK censorship killed it. It's nice to find a similar site with boards that actually have activity on them. I'm confused though - I noticed on some boards there's messages that are over a decade old. Was this a popular site all these years and I never heard of it?
This site was created two years ago after IMDB announced their message boards shutdown. Any older posts you see were migrated from IMDB. User names without a post number count in parentheses are a giveaway that the post was made on the old boards.
I really thought that may have been the case - the boards were simply migrated over. I questioned it because some of them only had a few posts when I remember there being a lot more. That makes a lot more sense :)
I don't know if that is the reason or if it's just the result of imdb purging older message board posts periodically, something I remember them doing when the boards were active.
UK censorship? What are you talking about? IMDb was likely removed due to too many negative comments towards Hollywood/Disney etc. They're afraid of that as it can hurt revenue, so they had it removed.
A lot of us here were from IMDb, and very relieved and thankful to find a new site, with all of the old boards and and a lot of the old posts.
I've come across quite a few of my old posts, as well as those of others I know from here, but didn't know on IMDb. I've also come across a few old IMDb friends, which is nice.
This is a great site, one of the best things it seems with IMDB closing it's forums is it got rid of the vast amount of trolls it had which ruined the forums. Still a bit like IMDB if you aren't a big blockbuster or superhero fan, it's a bit slow if you want to discuss indie, foreign or little known films. But still great to have discussions here and there.
