I still can't look at Jimmy Carter without thinking of how well Dan Aykroyd imitated him.
Also, The late great Phil Hartman. I loved his Bill Clinton!
I remember the talk shows while Johnson and Nixon were in office. The Smothers Brothers had a field day with them! Laugh-in too!

He certainly saved an entire crop of new late night talk show hosts who were all floundering in the ratings.

I won't deny that he practically writes the stuff for them as he goes along, but he isn't the first.
