That is something I've never thought about doing.
Know a director I can start from, with a short but decent-sized filmography?

Sergio Leone
Mel Gibson
Stanley Kubrick's is rather small (his filmography, not his penis. Maybe that is too, I don't know.)
Stephen Daldry
Brad Bird
Not saying they haven't done any bad, but their filmography is small.
Some great names there. Always enjoyed Leone's work. Thank you.
Shocking as this may sound, but I do believe I've never seen one of Kubrick's films - That's going to change this year!

David Fincher
shareFor a lot of people he seems to be an acquired taste - either really like his work or don't. Watching Se7en made me feel so slimy and sick on the inside, a revolting feeling I had never felt prior to see it. I liked his concept behind "Alien 3", needing to see that one again. Thanks, Howie.

Oh, I'm gonna fall back on ol' Stanley Kubrick. I don't necessarily like ALL of Kubrick's films (Eyes Wide Shut, but I need to see it again), but they are ALL so GOOD, I need to throw his name out there.
However, suddenly Billy Wilder came to mind, and I have no reservations about this gentleman. Winner Mr Wilder.
Oh ! And Charles Laughton !!
I haven't seen all of Billy Wilder's films, but I've seen a lot and his good films outweigh his bad ones by a mile.
shareCharles Laughton, good one! Night of the Hunter.
shareTough one, Most of my favourites have made some shit ones over the years. Off the top of my head I'll go with Joe Dante.
shareWes Anderson
shareAndy Sidaris
Clint Eastwood
Not in that order.
