some films are just poorly conceived, you get the blast of it immediately.
I usually give a movie 15-20 minutes. Burnt By The Sun (1994) was the last one I bailed on. Same thing with The Shape of Water last year.

shareyou missed out hugely on 'burnt by the sun'. its a great film. it is also an adaptation of a true story, caught in the stalin corruption & purges. the cat and mouse within is something out of dostoyevsky.
shareHe got turned off by the opening scene about the soldiers. I can see why. I had totally forgotten about it and I didn't like it either when I recently watched the movie again. There were a few moments of Russian humour throughout the movie that didn't really appeal to me (like that guy driving around asking for directions), but luckily the rest of the movie is not like that.

The only significant one I can remember offhand is the 15 minutes I gave Tropic Thunder.
Hated every second of that 15 minutes.
