Remote conrols

Does anybody have an idea on how to re-lable the buttons? The controller works fine but the writing is fading off fast. Don't want to buy a new one as this one works, just that when someone else tries to use it they don't know what they are pressing ...

very fine tipped sharpie maybe?

I have never had this problem. The remote usually wear out long before the writing is faded.

Can you cover the faded writing with a small strip of paper that has the button name written on it?

Go to Crutchfield.com and do a search for Remote Control Labels. Crutchfield as a huge and reputable source for home theater products and accessories.

EDIT I just went to Crutchfield and they don’t have press-on labels. DO NOT use felt-tip to
write on your remote. The fluid will short the remote out. Universal remotes start at $10-15, then go up, and are your most economical choice. Don’t shop for them at Walmart or your drug store. Go someplace like Magnolia Audio/Video and walk out with the right choice. I know that your current remote works—but you are the only one who can use it.

Use a very small writable sticker labels and put them on top of the buttons (not on the buttons themselves for they would peel in no time.)

Next time, however, just don't bother to remove the remote from the plastic wrapping it comes with from the factory. When the plastic is worn out, change into a new plastic. That way, your remote is basically brand new foreverrrrr...

That is genius!
