I live in a liberal neighborhood in big city in the United States, and while the local Church has contributed to good causes like charity, it has minimal influence on daily affairs.
The church very little. The mosque too much.

But I guess someone came up with that bright idea a long time ago because a black sheet was the only thing preventing hotness from being jumped by tribal elders.
It's gratifying to see a woman who apparently is from a part of the world that encourages anonymous garb and they choose not to dress as such. I don't need anyone dressing overtly like a hotty, but when a woman realizes she needn't feel oppressed in our secular society, it gives me hope. People who irrationally hang onto religious customs are disturbing. Demonstrating you prefer to live in the Dark Ages can lead to all sorts of problems.

Very little influence, as far as I can tell. Which is a great thing.
shareThe only place I can see this being true anymore are around those midwest and southern mega churches with their rockstar pastors who preach to a flock of 100,000 every sunday.
That and the state of Utah.

shareI live right by (perhaps in) Little Israel, so the local synagogues do wield quite a bit of influence. The Museum of Tolerance is a few blocks down the street, and it was kind of crazy in the area a few years back when Netanyahu came to visit the museum.
