Silver Bullet or An American Werewolf In London?

Its Halloween Time....

every station is playing horror movies, Over the last week I've watched Both of these films....

and Have came to the conclusion at least for me, These are the 2 best Werewolf movies ever made....

and I really cant decide which was is better...I think they are both equally great in quality, but I think like Silver bullet a little more....

The Music/Theme whenever the Werewolf is attacking or Stalking is Haunting and truly adds fear to him....I remember watching it as a kid a truly being scared every time I heard that music

other favorites-

All early Wolf Man movies
Wolf
Bad Moon
Cursed
Underworld 1 and 3
The Wolfman(2010)

Have Not seen-
Dog Soldiers or any of The Howling Movies....I've heard good things about them

American Werewolf in London for me, Dog Soldiers is decent and so is The Howling and The Howling 5.

of those two, i'd go for american werewolf. i haven't seen silver bullet in decades, though, & i do remember it being quite a bit of fun.

however, my own personal favourite werewolf film is ginger snaps. it's a touch primitive in some of its effects work, but that movie is fun & witty & i completely fall in love with katherine isabelle every time i watch it. i never get tired of it, & i've seen it at least a dozen times.

Silver Bullet. Great movie. I always tear up at the end when Marty and Jane say they love each other and the voiceover which is suspose to be an older Jane says she wasn't always able to say that to her brother. But Busey was also excellent. Classic Busey in this movie.

"Holy jumped-up baldheaded Jesus palomino!"

Ah, Gary Busey was amazing in this film! I adore him.

The werewolf is my absolute favorite creature of all time!!!

Your question poses a real quandary for me. AAWIL is a very high bar, and so different than all the rest.
My favorite WW film is The Wolf Man 1941 starring Lon Chaney Jr.

But getting back to answering your question, I would have to say AAWIL because it was/is a ground breaker in the special effects category. Whereas, SB, (such an endearing favorite of mine ), is an adorable little film without too much fanfare. I love it. If I had to choose which to watch again and again, SB by mile.

BTW - Dog Soldiers is excellent, really wonderful, and Howling 1 and 2 are good. The rest aren't so great. But if you are a WW fanatic as I am, seek them out.

You are the first person I’ve seen, other than myself, who likes The Howling II: Your Sister Is A Werewolf; and I only like it for its punked-out themesong and Sybil Danning nude.

The Company Of Wolves is the best werewolf movie thus far in English, and I’ve seen ‘em all. It’s not a horror movie. It’s a fantastic werewolf movie, directed by Neil Jordan, who also, and probably not coincidentally, directed the best vampire movie in English thus far, Byzantium. Nosferatu, titled in German, is arguably as good, or better.

Neither. "Big Wolf on Campus" is the one that rules, man!
