Midnight Run. Actually, Robert De Niro/ Jack Walsh is already out of the police dept. He became a bounty because the cops in his division were crooked.
He is about to retire from the bounty hunter game in this movie.
Hollywood is missing a great story angle that I am willing to give them to utilize at will:
A soon to retire, mentor-type cop to the young hero of the story gets killed, causing ironic anguish and incentive for the hero to get revenge on the bad guys.
