Cursive?

Is cursive writing taught in elementary schools any more?

reply

No... I was just saying this to my family the other day
My kids and all of my friends kids are no longer taught cursive
Times have really changed...school is really weird these days!

reply

Doesn't this make you wonder if some day, some people will be unable to read historical letters and documents?? Gee, maybe that's a new job - translating cursive to print.

reply

I think cursive is just about toe-tagged...not even sure i can write like that anymore if im honest

And i must admit, i read a bunch of history stuff...some of the old maps and diaries are really hard to figure out for me now
You may be right Glen!
Reading old stuff will probably be a future job

reply

I think I have lost the ability to write cursive. Never use it anymore.

I used cursive just yesterday to write a check. Yes, in this town you can still pay by check. I always ask small businesses if they'll take one. No one has said no in the five years I've lived here. I think they appreciate not getting nicked with the fees that cards have.

reply

I still write checks too. I don't trust online media with my credit card number. Believe it or not I sometimes write letters, and things like shopping lists.

reply

Remember when they used to ask you to write your social security # on your check and no one thought a thing of it? I bet no one does that any more. Or maybe that was common just in my region.

reply

I know lots of cursive.... Shit, fuck, damn, bitch.

Am I doing it right? ;)

Seriously though, how can anyone hand write in print? It's too slow! I guess they skip cursive now because the kids all use keyboards or touchscreens, barely any writing needed.

I'd teach it just for the sake of quick note-taking in the future.

reply

I don't have a smart phone, so I still make lists, etc. using good old-fashioned pen and paper. Cursive!

reply

Typing is faster for most people nowadays.

reply

Yes

Computers are the future, so it makes more sense to focus on that than an outdated style of writing. Maybe it should be something thatss taught at home since everyone should be able to sign their signature?
