Books that would make good movies

The Last Juror

reply

Im just finishing Watership Down (for the 4th time)
Its a fabulous book...frankly, on the Lord of the Rings level imo...
One could argue even better

They made a decent cartoon about it ages ago but i would love to see an update...maybe a CGI remake with top-shelf effects and in keeping with the original story?

Probably too much to hope for and i suppose a $100 million adventure story featuring Rabbits could be a tough sell...i thnk this novel deserves a proper movie though

Yes
A fine crash course in politics...i dearly love this story
Fiver, Bigwig, Silver and Hazel remind me a great deal of the Hobbits in LOTR...constant danger but they stayed loyal
Wonderful book

Ive been wondering lately if they could even do a film...it would have to be mostly CGI and would cost a fortune

Netflix is doing one now👍but the word is its going to be altered so as not to disturb the youts👎

reply

Interesting!
A four hour mini series
BBC/Netflix co-production...
They should keep it disturbing though, that made it special imo

Sounds very similar to Animal Farm and Bigwig seems much like the idealistic, loyal but naive Boxer, the workhorse.

reply

I bet the Animal Farm and Watership Down movies were both made by the same animation house.

reply

I wouldn't know about that but I do remember watching an animated version of Animal Farm in high school after having read the book.

I've always had an awareness of it. I don't know why I never got around to reading it. Btw, I never realized Animal House was that politically oriented, lol !

Hey, no worries guy, a simple brain fart which can happen at any age. I couldn't help but point it out because it was amusing.

reply

*Animal Farm lol
Yes, Watership Down is terrific, and Bigwig (he is the very aggressive, large rabbit) does bear a resemblance to Sam Gamgee from LOTR as MJF stated...a very good fellow to have in the foxhole next door

reply

I know something about aggressive rabbits.

reply

Bigwig is very much like Boxer
Two huge specimins that need some direction to move forward...then, look out!

reply

Boxer was my favorite character, that's why the comparison immediately came to mind.

reply

Pretty good comparison
They were both proper toughguys...loyal too
Great literary characters...just like Samwise

reply

Watership down bitch smacks lord of the rings! Just sayin👍

reply

I love both stories...ive read both about 4 times now
Watership Down really doesnt get the respect it deserves

Badass characters, scary villains, pretty hopeless situations and that English way of writing a story...like poetry really...just beautiful
The English frequently murder their language when speaking it (this tendancy drives me crazy!) but they are masters at the written English Word...really gifted writers

Sven hassel - the legion of the damned

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

No, the book was not already adapted. The movie was an adaptation of the stage play version. Half of the novel was removed to do the play.

The book is a far cry from the movie, and a real adaptation would require a pretty big budget with modern effects. Maybe Terry Gilliam or David Fincher directing.

It really needs to be done.

The book was told from the perspective of Chief's mind, psychosis included, so there are his own thoughts and (mis)interpretations, as well as vividly described hallucinations.

I don't remember if he smothered in the movie, but yes the fountain escape is in both iirc.

reply

Smothered as well👍

Red Storm Rising - "Red Storm Rising is a 1986 techno-thriller novel by Tom Clancy and Larry Bond about a Third World War in Europe between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Warsaw Pact forces, set around the mid-1980s"

reply

Always thought “Galapagos” by Kurt Vonnegut would make the funniest coolest movie, directed by P.T. Anderson of course.

Night Watch by Terry Pratchett

Timeline by Michael Crichton was made into a terrible movie, but if it was adapted faithfully it could be great. It's already due for a new version.
