Never...i think the great Mall Culture of the '80s is dead
Lots of fun memories though:)
Ive got that Amazon Prime deal now
You can find anything you want, shipping is usually free and they give you thousands of movies (some really obscure oddities too!) for about $100 a year
I have not seen the inside of a real mall in ages...Amazon is killing them off
Thx Amigo
It really does make me a bit sad though...when i was growing up the mall was the place to be
Before we had cars wed all catch the bus and spend the whole day there...
Cute girls with Big Hair, movie theaters, candy shops, the food court...
I loved the mall when i was a kid
Yep, the late 1980's was the pinnacle. Sears for tools and basic electronics. A few bookstores where checking out a book about US Presidents from the 19th Century may get you an appreciative glance from a girl several years your senior. The malls were fairly balanced then in terms of targeted customer as opposed to being strictly for 16-35 year old women (or women who imagine that they are still that young) today.
Well, the ones you would want to bring home to meet your family. The ones that would give you a ride home if it was raining (after they got to know you over coffee. The ones that wore sensible clothing. The ones that while decent looking would require an explanation to your buddies as to the hookup. While the one you wanted as you walked in was buying an outfit that would make her mom kick her out or ground her. A day like today where it is supposed to rain during the afternoon and the air conditioning is too inviting.
We were all dumbasses coming out of high school or college when it came to women. I know for a fact that I should have paid much more attention to the skinnier than I would like girl who really did not need to spend much on a bra because she would be attentive and mature. Instead of panting over the girl who was a size 6 or 7 and trying to figure how much her breasts would spill out of a C cup bra or if it would be worth it to bring her home to meet mom while she was wearing a very immodest outfit. I know I should have given a few girls more of a chance during my early 20's than what I did. Not that I always aimed too high but should have realized there was much more there under the surface plus a willingness to accommodate in terms of style. If I had to do it all over there are a lot of things I would do different. Even so there were a few that needed to be told to hit the road.
I live in a remote area and haven't even seen a shopping mall in many years. I've heard malls are in decline now too. I remember going to some when I was a kid in the late 90s/early 2000s though.
Yes, the Century City (CA) mall is great, and it's open-air. I go there mainly for the AMC theater, but also regularly shop at The Container Store, and it has the closest Disney Store as well. Great food court too.
The parking garage spooked me until I saw that the camera systems recognize your license plate, know where you park, link your garage ticket to the plate, and thus the exit gate opens automatically if you've paid for your parking, no need to feed it into the machine.
Cali is great for their open-air malls (and for many other reasons). I remember eating at a Panda Express in the Century City mall many years ago. Good to know it's still there. I also remember The Block in Orange County, hopefully they are still around too.
Only when I have to get or do a particular thing in person (banking, buying shoes etc) which is a couple of times a year. Otherwise I avoid them. I hate the crowds and wasting time walking long distances in the crush to get to where I have to go.
