Stonekeeper's Vacation Game: Guess a movie #6: Get in the Mix

I solved hownos' number 5, so let's jive.

Here is Stonekeeper's explanation for newcomers:

So you guys like to play games? This is my favorite one that we use to play on Imdb. It's a investigating game that can be time consuming but it's lots of fun. Basically, I have a movie in mind and you have to guess movies. For each movies you guys are going to guess, I will give a hint that connects the two movies. Example: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve a girl being murdered. The winner of the game can either start a new one after or say "pass" and I will do it.
After 12 hints, the original poster gets the point and also get to do another one.

For every movie you guess, I will give you additional hint. After 12 hints, the dealer wins. Let's get it on!

UPDATE: Twelve hints later, and no one has guessed the correct film so far. The correct answer is A New Leaf (1971). If you haven't seen it, go ahead and treat yourself to a pleasant romantic comedy.

Hint 1: The Godfather (1972) - John Cazale did not appear in this movie! (Not necessarily a movie that was nominated for best picture)
Hint 2: The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Directed by someone who was nominated for an Academy Award in writing. (Elaine May)
Hint 3: Manhattan (1979) - Woody Allen worked with the lead female actress of this film in the 1990s. (Elaine May in Small Time Crooks)
Hint 4: Dreamgirls (2006) - Both of these films received Golden Globe nominations. (Dreamgirls also won some)
Hint 5: The Blob (1988) - The directors of both these films have worked with John Travolta. (Travolta has worked with Chuck Russell in I Am Wrath and Elaine May in Primary Colors)
Hint 6: Apocalypse Now (1979) - The Redux version of AN is over an hour and a half longer than this movie's final runtime. (Yup)
Hint 7: Pulp Fiction (1994) - Cars from the 1960s are prominently featured. (The male lead likes expensive cars)
Hint 8: Jackie (2016) - The story centers around a well-to-do woman. (Elaine May plays a rich woman)
Hint 9: The Graduate (1967) - One of the main actors from the mystery film in question appears in this movie. (Elaine May appeared in The Graduate)
Hint 10: Rosemary's Baby (1968) - The lead actresses in both films have the exact same number of letters in their names. (Mia Farrow and Elaine May: The numbers don't lie)
Hint 11: Dick Tracy (1990) - Warren Beatty has collaborated at least twice with both the writer and director of this film. (Ishtar and Heaven Can Wait)
Hint 12: Reds (1981) - At over 3 hours, approximately matches the runtime of the original cut of this movie. (According to the sources, the original cut of A New Leaf ran around three hours, similar to Reds)

I promise to make the seventh round easier. Thanks to everyone who played!

Apocalypse Now?

reply

Bonus hint: Not made with the involvement of Francis Ford Coppola.

reply

Pulp Fiction 1994

reply

Jackie (2016)

reply

The Graduate (1967)

reply

Closest guess so far. Three hints to go!

reply

for hint #9; can you write the name of the actor please.

Example: If my movie is Seven and someone guess Snatch I will write my hint like this:

Actor in common: Brad Pitt

reply

After 9 clues I still can't guess the genre or the decade of this movie.

reply

Bonus Hint 2: Look for deeper patterns.

reply

Too cryptic. I surrender.

reply

Another one throws in the towel. Who will step up and take advantage of these three remaining hints?

reply

Rosemary's Baby (1968)? It meets most of the criteria anyway. I dunno, I'm running out of ideas.

reply

Dick Tracy (1990)

reply

Hmm. I actually thought of that one the other day, but ruled it out for some reason (don't remember why). It'd be just about my luck if you end up winning with that one. :P lol

reply

Im not sure it has all the elements, we'll see

reply

Dick Tracy was set in the 1930s. There would be no cars from the 1960s.

reply

So I guess we'll be up to 11 hints here. I guessed Rosemary's Baby, but I'm less than certain that it's the one. It had a lot of elements; made in the 60s so it would have 60s cars, it stars Mia Farrow who worked with Woody Allen several times in the 90s, it was nominated for some Golden Globes, director was nominated for an Academy Award in writing... But I don't know. I wasn't sure all the elements matched. For one, the movie might have been too long.

So if it's not Dick Tracy, and it's not Rosemary's Baby, then we've got one hint to go after these. Getting down to the wire!

reply

You guys are getting real close! Dig deeper!

reply

This is a tough one Fred!

reply

Boy, you're not kidding. I think I'm gonna have to fold. I've spent the last few hours combing through Woody Allen's 1990s filmography for actresses with nine letters in their names, and then putting Judy Davis' entire career under a magnifying glass in the effort to find a movie that matches these clues. Couldn't find one. At this point I think I have to admit defeat. I'm fresh out of ideas.

reply

Hahaha! Oh geez. He got us...

reply

You give up too? Hahaha. I thought if anyone would win this one, it would be you.

reply

I guess there's no hope?

reply

Seems like it, lol. I did try my best, but in the end it defeated me. :P

reply

Still don't know the genre or decade so it is pointless to continue.

reply

First off...COCKSUCKER! Everyone is thinking it😂
Second...reds?

reply

First off...COCKSUCKER! Everyone is thinking it😂
Second...reds?

What?

reply

Lol! CS for coming up with such an impossible game!!!
Reds is an answer that fulfills some of your criteria. ..but is obviously wrong

reply

Obviously. I think Reds might be at the opposite end of the color wheel.

reply

I honestly didn't think it would be this difficult for a film board. I'll reveal the answer later tonight if there are no other guesses!
