British crime dramas

I came across this today. I admit to being a bit of an Anglophile – okay, maybe it’s more than a bit. I was a bit surprised to see how many of these I’ve watched.

1. Inspector Morse (1987-2000) Yes, first British crime drama I saw.
2. Foyle’s War (2002-15) Yes
3. Line of Duty (2012-) No
4. Endeavour (2012) Yes
5. Happy Valley (2014-) Yes
6. Vera (2011-) Yes
7. Miss Marple (1984-1992) Not yet, but plan to.
8. Agatha Christie’s Poirot (1989-2013) Not yet, but plan to.
9. Shetland (2013-) Yes
10. A Touch of Frost (1992-2010) Yes
11. Midsomer Murders (1997-) Currently making my way through this one.
12. Lewis (2006-2015) Yes
13. Prime Suspect (1991-2006) Yes
14. New Tricks (2003-2015) No
15. Broadchurch (2013-17) 1st season only
16. Inspector George Gently (2006-17) Yes
17. Life on Mars (2006-7) No
18. Scott & Bailey (2011-16) No
19. Taggart (1985-2010) No
20. Strike (2017-) No

not sure where you would find it, but Johnathon Creek is a favourite of mine. All "locked room" mysteries - mostly murder, of seemingly impossible crimes.
Of the ones you mentioned Poirot is a must see, David Suchet is fantastic as the super sleuth. Also Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect is treat to watch, as is John Thaw in Morse.

so pleased you're enjoying British telly :)))

reply

Yep Jonathan Creek was good, I think I'll give some of them a rewatch as it's been ages 👍

Unforgotten (2015-2018) is another good one. Just binged Seasons 1 and 2.

reply

Cracker is a recommended addition to your list.

reply

It's not my list, I came across it (see link in my OP) and was a bit surprised at how many on the list I've seen. I've watched a few episodes of Cracker, but it hasn't grabbed me in a way that I want to watch every episode. I may circle back to it someday.

I’m currently viewing the first episode of the series Whitechapel...rather *grisly*.

Edited the word grisly from grizzly! Good Grief! I should not type when “the little gray cells” aren’t at their best!

reply

I'm not sure that would be in my ballpark. I assume you meant grisly, as in gruesome? I can handle some 'darkness' but not too much. Interested to see your rating of it.

reply

Yes, I meant *grisly* darn it! I knew it didn’t seem right when I typed it, but I let it go...brain wouldn’t kick in due to these damn migraines. Thanks for the correction. I will edit my error.

Anyhow, the first story is about a “Jack the Ripper” wanna be. If I can handle it, it’s a safe bet others can also. I’m squeamish...never watched “Jaws”!

reply

I've seen Jaws, so I'll check it out. I don't have Amazon Prime, but my library has the first series.

reply

Poirot is the best of them all. Also the 80s Sherlock Holmes is fantastic.

reply

What about The Hour (2011-2012) ?

reply

I’ve watched Happy Valley, Broadchurch, Prime Suspect, Shetland, and Vera.

I have also watched The Tunnel, Collateral, The Bletchley Circle, and Unforgotten.
