I have to disagree. I found him neither brilliant nor funny. I found him to be a man who chose to use profanity to the nth degree. His videos were out in left field...weird, weird stuff. Indescribable. The one redeeming quality he has is his love for his wife...no doubt from reading his posts he loves her dearly.

MovieMan, censured doesn’t mean to shut down. It means to criticize, condemn. You know I live here in the U.S. and the First Amendment is paramount for me. But, the First Amendment was written for the government not to shut us down, although there are exceptions. Words can have consequences. Therefore the mods on this site have the *right* to “censure” someone if his/her posts get out of hand. DF’s last posts with the language he used were beyond the pale.

I’m not the one who decided what profanity is. It was defined long before you or I walked the earth. Civil discourse offends no one, but the use of profanity can and does. Profanity is defined as the use of abusive, vulgar or irreverent language. DF would be considered a “chain swearer”. Our culture has changed not to the better when we as supposedly intelligent beings, are unable to converse without every other word being profane. Profanity interspersed into our everyday conversations has become...sad to say...the norm.

We have just about beat this “horse” to death, but I’ll quote someone else’s view on the use of profanity:
“It’s called the law of COMMON SENSE, and DECENCY. Someone who constantly uses profanity in public without regard to others is self-centered, immature, inconsiderate and cannot control their emotions. There are thousands of words in the English language with which to express oneself without stooping to the use of 'sewer' language. Saying it's freedom or that everyone does it just shows a persons lack of character, poor upbringing and/or education and moral judgment. These people are offensive, rude and obnoxious. BTW, some states do have laws against the public use of profanity. Do I believe arrests should be made? No! Do I believe fines should be levied? No! Censuring from those around works wonders. I recently was involved in a conversation with two friends. One dropped the f-bomb...my response....with a smile “Ooh..language?” We continued our confab without missing a beat.

Swearing in Mark Twain’s time was completely different than what is rolling off tongues today. No doubt he was earthy. The following may be of interest. I’m quoting the last few lines.
