Greatest horror film?
Rosemary's Baby
shareThe Blair Witch Project is one of the very few movies that has truly unnerved me. I almost forget I'm watching a movie and think I'm in the woods with the main characters.
shareOne of the best performed horror films I've ever seen. It's no wonder none of these actors went on to bigger careers: they WERE these characters.
shareNice to see another fan. A very polarizing film. People either love it or hate it.
shareI wouldn't go camping, let alone anywhere near a forest after dark, for the longest time following my initial viewing of "Blair Witch." If a horror a film can have that kind of influence on me it's one that I will always hold in high esteem.
shareYeah, the whole "nothing happens" complaint comes from people who didn't really immerse themselves in it.
shareI think most people look for the mainstream jokey horror fun of Freddy Krueger. Something from the fringes like "Blair Witch" polarizes because it's existential horror -- the kind that troubles the soul, leaves you with uncomfortable questions to ponder, and utterly absent of the sense of fun a trip to the multiplex imparts. "Blair Witch" is not a pleasurable experience ... but if you're willing to surrender to it it's damn effective.

Yep in the theatre
shareAgreed. I don't think I've felt anything like fear while watching horror before viewing this. And it's so deeply entrenched in popular culture that a lot of people don't seem to realize the extent of its influence on current cinema. Like, I'm not happy about how many people use shaky cam to make films, for example, but it's influence is everywhere.
shareNot happy that the shaky cam thing caught on the way it did either, but I will say it was a very effective horror movie.
I thought it was pretty funny that, at the time, so many people thought it was real.
I loved the Blair Witch because it's didn't matter to me if there was a witch or not. It would be just as scary if it were just locals messing with them.
