What is wrong with men?

There are more women than men in college. How is that possible? What are men doing instead? I see that Internet forums are dominated by men and this applies even more so to academic forums than social forums. Does anyone know stats on YouTube? I guess that it is 80% of videos made by men. Men are on the internet. It seems lonely. What are women doing outside of college?

One thought is that men are much more likely to work in the trades than women -- lucrative jobs that don't require college degrees. That extends to Information Technology, which has a number of professional certifications that can equal, or even outweigh, an undergrad degree.

reply

And the certification is gained with a lot less debt incurred.

The Accounting profession is now 60% female. When I started 30 years ago it was 75% male.

Why would men go to college nowdays? It's becoming ridiculously expensive, and most of it is useless anyways. Unless you're going for certain career like Medicine, Engineering, or STEM then it's just not worth it. Best to just learn a trade skill instead. Skilled plumbers for example can pull close to six-figures a year. Also, most Universities are dominated by liberal feminists nowdays. Why would men go to such institutions that do not want them there? You risk having you're whole future ruined by false rape or sexual harassment claims as a result. Doesn't surprise me that more and more men are not going to college as a result of these things.

I was talking to my plumber that was fixing my furnace, I said HEY, you guys make more than doctors
he said I know, I used to be a doctor

reply

Is your plumber, by any chance, a mustaschioed Italian by the name Mario? Because that's the plumber I know who was a doctor (also apparently a tennis player and a go-kart racer too.)

reply

I think I know him, too!

reply

The only Italian surgeons I know only work at night, (with no nurses)

I don't think anything is wrong with men. I wish you would have worded this thread another way because everytime I see it I get irritated. Nothing is wrong with men. They can go to college or they can not go. They can have jobs or not have one. I'm so sick of everyone picking on them, pushing this men are evil agenda all over the world. Besides, college is so expensive and not even that useful so I think men are smart for not getting involved in such a useless unnecessary part of life.

most times the jobs we want require that college ticket, but since it takes pretty much the rest of your life to pay back the college loans, you have to wonder is it worth it,
My brother is 40 years old and he still owes over 100k in student loans, of course he had 8 years of higher education.

reply

Wow, studying is really that expensive in the us? 100k.. i'd pay back that forever for sure. In my country we have free education system. I spent five years in a university, but I ended up taking a 10 000€ loan just so that I could party harder, a decision I ended up regretting later.

reply

yeah, it's outrageous, but somebody has to pay Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh $9 million this year, and the college president Jenkins' $830k per year,

I think culturally it has to be affected by and a cause of the rise of manchild culture... Being a 'bro' hanging out and playing video games while drinking weed and smoking mountain dew, etc... obsessing over minutae of pop trivia, etc... being unattached and free from real relationships with women, just easy sex and such... i.e. eternal boy who avoid becoming men...

The hipster verions also... The idea of avoiding becoming 'The Man' requires avoiding becoming a man.

The culture of resisting being a man and continuing to be a boy means to not develop a career, a trade, a business and position and status in society... It means education is lower on young men's (i.e. boys/manchildren's) priorities...

By the time they're in their 30s, their looks have faded along with their boy T-Shirts and hoodies it is too late as they are now part of the underclass as opposed to the doers in society...

What parents tell their boys to focus on their education in a serious way? To be a man, to man up...? This is taboo now.

The culture tells boys to stay boys... It's fine as long as they don't act out... it doesn't matter if that also strips them of the aggressiveness that is required to do well in STEM, Medicine and Law at university...

I'm not saying it's the whole thing, but it's part of it...
