David Bowie - Young Americans

reply

"Istanbul Opening" by Giorgio Moroder - from the soundtrack to Midnight Express.

So you have taste. Why am I not surprised? What do you think of Bowie's Heroes? And his Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars movie soundtrack, both of which are among my favorites?

I never "followed" him when he was alive. When I learned that he was dead, I was surprised that I was crushed. Bowie was like electricity. He was something that I thought that we would always have. What a gift he was.

reply

You shouldn't be surprised! ;)

I adore Bowie even though I never followed him either. I remember feeling terrible when he died. Boyfriend enlightened me to so many classics of his, Life on Mars?, Golden Years, Young Americans, Starman. I haven't listened to either of those albums but I enjoy several of the songs on them. :)

That's a great way to describe him, like electricity.

Thank you, treasured friend. I try very hard with my descriptions of people whom I venerate. In Ricky Gervais’s HBO series, Extras, which was
actually a wonderful, albeit minor HBO sitcom, a nightclub doorman referred to Bowie as being “tantamount to brilliant,” and I could not agree more, absent the “tantamount” comment. From David Bowie (Jones) to Ziggy Stardust to Thin White Duke?! To Freaking LEGEND?! AND internet developer AND style emprosarrio? The man ruled. His touchstone was was Frank Sinatra. So, too, was Freddy Mercury’s. No wonder that their Under Pressure duet jelled so
well. What a true loss. How lucky we are to have so many recordings.

I loved Extras, every single episode. Bowie was brilliant in his mocking song ode to the Gervais character. The final episode where he is so desperate he participates in a "reality, celebrity" series was brutally honest.

Thank you! :) My mom went to a Van Halen concert while she was pregnant with me. She told me once that I danced the entire time haha. I bet that was a great experience, seeing him live.

reply

LOL too cute!
Babies do seem to respond to 'outside' stimuli...i read Narnia and other stuff to my wifes belly for both of my kiddies....
Im certain they can hear in there:)

I saw Roth and Hagar in New Jersey shortly before they cancelled the rest of the tour due to them hating each other...it was awesome!
Roth was funny...he kept doing those karate kicks he rocked back in the '80s but i thought he was going to hurt himself lol!

reply

That's so sweet! I was young when I had my daughter, read about that in Babies Today or whatever it was. Never tried it though, but I know they can hear because while inside my stomach, my daughter ADORED my brothers voice. She would kick my sides so much when he visited.

Haha, I'd hurt myself if I tried that!

reply

Adorable:)

reply

I say this as a die-hard Eddie fan: many beat him on a technical level. To name one -- DLR's guitarist Steve Vai.

reply

Interesting take
Thx Tex:)
