A movie you LOVE...

That has a problem or two

I loved 'Enemy at the Gates'
The acting, the fight scenes, the cinematography...perfect and terrifying!
It covered the tide-turning WWII Battle of Stalingrad in which a determined and overpowered Soviet force fought off and completely decimated the German 6th Army

The attack on the city commenced in August '42 and ended in Feb '43 in complete disaster for Hitler and his forces
Nearly 2 million Casualties and thousands of tanks and aircraft were destroyed
Hell on Earth...and the Germans began a retreat that did not end until their unconditional surrender

In this epic film there is a whole romantic subplot that was so out of place it would have been side-splitting if it wasnt so distracting from the real story
Big flaw in my opinion

And dont get me started on Ron Perlman's crazy 'Russian' accent!

Do you have a favorite movie that has a crappy scene or two you want to mention?

reply

RE 6 Alice vs Isaacs, she looses her fingers then she drives a bike afterwards!?

She release the anti-virus,she collapses, then "why am I still alive?"!!

reply

Must admit i have missed these movies
But sounds cool!

reply

It is

reply

I saw the first one.

reply

How was it??

reply

I watched the first one based on your recommendation months ago and gave it a 6.5/10
Mila looked great in that red dress/shirt

reply

She always looks great..by the way,the last ship, did you checked it??

reply

I watched the first episode of The Last Ship and I was not impressed - I thought it was too jingoistic and I did not like the captain character.

I have turned my attention to The Expanse - have you seen this sci-fi series ??

reply

No,it is good??

reply

I haven't started yet but it looks promising.

reply

I will take your word on it

reply

You should give them a shot, they're not great but enjoyable.

reply

I will try
Got so many things to watch
Thanks👍

reply

Too many to mention, however the most recent would be 'Dunkirk'

300'000 + soldiers on the beach, A few hundred tanks and heavy equipment we had to leave behind. What do we see in Nolan's universe? A wet Tuesday on Blackpool beach with a few blokes in a queue and a happy birthday airplane overhead. Rubbish.

reply

I have yet to see this
Jeez...now im not so jazzed to see it
One of the most heroic rescues of any war ever reduced to 'meh'

weird!

reply

It was a let down pal, imagine Iwo Jima with with a few sun bathers puting up the Stars and Stripes on Coney Island early January for authenticity. Apologies for the comparison.

reply

The time sequence was also confusing and unnecessary.

reply

Agreed, The whole thing looks like a History channel Sunday special, and i'll admit i burst out laughing at the end, Hardy's Spitfire. I'll say no more however Etonement caught the chaos on the beaches far more than than Nolan - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QijbOCvunfU

reply

Hahaha!!!
I cant imagine that man

My buddy at at work told me it was lousy but i refused to believe it...
The trailer was mint!

Im going to watch but you are the second guy that has told me it stinks:(
How do you screw up this story?!?

I will watch it soon
I'll report in when i see it

Thx dude

reply

You're welcome pal, I'm not usually vocal about films but in this case i had to. As they say over the pond 'Fuggeda bout it' ;-)

reply

I thought it was excellent. Very tense. But it's not really a war movie, not in the traditional sense anyway, it's more about surviving. Seems like we watched a totally different film as I was on the edge of my seat on many scenes. And the soundtrack was great too.

reply

I've mentioned this before, but Waterworld. It has a lot of problems and it is kinda ridiculous but I love it. The setting is just amazing.

Another one would be Mad Max 3. The second half is not as good as the first but I still love it and think it's underated.

I have thing for post apocalyptic movies.

reply

I enjoyed both movies a bunch!

Thunderdome was AWESOME!!!

Waterworld is better than most give it credit for and i think the 'hate' is mostly due to busting the budget by a ton of money during production
The public didnt care but the newspapers made the Waterworld budget a running joke...which was unfair but hey...The Press is usually trash

reply

I'm a huge fan of the Mad Max films. Mad Max 2 is one of my all time favourite films, I've seen it countless times and it never gets old. I like to watch mm2 and 3 back to back.

I loved Fury Road too. It was a funny coincidence that it was released on october 6th which is my birthday, it was the best birthday present ever lol. My friend payed for my ticket as a present and she was laughing because I was excited like a little kid when we were waiting for the film to start. Needless to say it was awesome.

reply

The entire MAD MAX trilogy is a favorite of mine
And Fury Road was a great action movie
Some people picked at this and that (mostly guys bitching because the women propelled the story and not Max) but i loved it

Real great stuff man!

reply

Some Like It Hot. My favorite movie of all time.

reply

I never saw it
What flaws or story telling issues did it have?

reply

None. It is a "screwball comedy" with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe.

reply

An iconic comedy featuring some talented actors and a killer last line, "well, nobody's perfect".

reply

Yes! Joe E. Brown! Hilarious ending.

reply

one I have come to love very much recently - Kevin Smith's brilliant CLERKS II

I submit that Clerks II is every bit as good as any Mel Brooks Film

reply

I haven't seen it in ages
Probably should revisit both Clerks at some point

Thx:)

reply

I wouldn't use the word love , but there are many many movies that I like so much I never tire of them.

The most recent I have seen are " The Parent Trap " (1961)
" Ben - Hur " (1959) , one of the all-time greats , Charlton Heston in a tour-de-force -Haya Harareet , Jack Hawkins and Stephen Boyd superb , as well

reply

Ben Hur was a fantastic movie
I owned it on VHS for ages...
unfortunately, during a move to a new home i stupidly stuck it and a couple hundred other VHS cassettes under the eaves of the house where they baked under the roof until they were shot!

STILL shake my head over this complete disaster i brought upon myself😖

reply

shit happens

reply

Yes
Always to me lol!
