TV Miniseries
Which ones do you love?
I adore the Gulliver's Travels with Ted Danson, and I like The Odyssey with Armand Assante. Also I've been pretty vocal about my love for BBC Narnia.

LOL my bad. I thought you meant this Odyssey https://moviechat.org/tt0103504/The-Odyssey
Loved that one as a kid.
These are a bit old, but...
The Thorn Birds
Rich Man, Poor Man
Manions of America
North & South (1985 version with Patrick Swayze)
The Winds of War
Pride & Prejudice (1995 version)
Hmm, I can't think of any current ones.
It's not really in fashion anymore, although anthology shows like True Detective or American Horror Story are kind of the successor of the miniseries.
shareI think they went out of favor at some point, as most things do. I think they call them limited series now.
shareI watched Hatfields & McCoys, but the second episode especially was very disappointing. Pretty much a Costner egotrip.
I would love to see more miniseries. I think a lot of movies and tv shows are more suitable as a miniserie.
I saw a little bit and liked what I saw, especially Paxton
shareYes, Paxton was excellent and the more interesting character. But I hated how they twisted the historical facts and felt the need to choose sides.
shareWell it was History channel, so unfortunately that means not historically accurate.
shareHa, so true!😆
shareIn college we got History channel in our dorms, and I just called it the Hitler and aliens network, because that's the only thing they aired at the time. Now it could just be called the Pawn Stars channel.
sharePawn stars. Yuck.
shareYou said it.
shareOMG, there is SO much crap out there. I can't believe what people watch these days. 🙄
shareStick to films and what you can find streaming. You get Netflix yet?
shareYes, I did! I left the dark ages finally!
sharePretty great to say goodbye to commercials eh?
shareDefinitely! I haven't had cable or regular TV for years so I haven't had to deal with the plethora of commercials these days, but I know they exist. I don't mind a couple of them, but they're out of control these days. It's utterly ridiculous that a half-hour show is barely 20 minutes nowadays.
share"Rich Man, Poor Man"
Yes. The absolute best. Ed Asner as the father carries it forward before William Smith as "Falconetti" takes it & turns it in to something else altogether.
A "vast wasteland" my ass.
Yep, if you look hard enough there are some things worth watching.
shareThis production held the line of perfection. Milland, Darby, Reed, Malone, Murray Hamilton, on & on. You never wanted it to end. & Strauss with his temper tantrums...he was excellent at 'em. Nice & slender, perfect condition in his Brooks Brothers suits. He was almost beautiful there, GE.
& Bixby. Tim McIntire & Darby settling on him for marriage. They hit all the correct levers. Nothing was missed.
I God's, the memories.
I've never watched Rich Man, Poor Man, but my mother really liked it back then.
share"Chiefs" with Charlton Heston. '83. It's a Brad Davis direct hit as he steals the show.
I heartily recommend this mini-series.
Excellent.
I love Brad Davis. Will watch for sure.
shareYes. Absolutely yes...here is the final paragraph in his wife's book "After Midnight - The Life And Death Of Brad Davis"
"I miss Brad. There isn't a day that goes by that my thoughts don't turn to him for comfort, for guidance, and for humor. I know Alexandra feels his absence even more acutely. Her father was a difficult man, but as he wrote to her in that final letter, he was, he hoped, also a good man. If there is any meaning to this, its that-that as troubled as he was, Brad Davis was a good man, that he was capable of great love, and that he was loved greatly in return."
- Susan Bluestein Davis
& he worked, PR, right thru it all, right to the end. He didn't crawl into a corner. No, he'd rise each day, throw his sweat sodden clothes into that corner, dress and go to work.
Brad Davis
Another one that should not be missed.
"East of Eden" --- Jane Seymour is beyond perfection.
This mini-series is peerless. Highly recommended. The music by Mike Post is stunningly beautiful.
