Darude's "Sandstorm" song.

What do we all think of this late 90s European dance trance pop single world wide hit?

In my opinion, its OK, 6/10, could've been better, a little too repetitive and nothing groundbreaking but decent and catchy enough for what it is.

reply

Never heard of it before, but i just listened it and meh

reply

Really croft alice, you've never heard it until now?

It was a popular hit in late 1999 thru 2000 worldwide, were you born after 2000?

reply

I was born before the 90's,so no i never heard it before

But i'm with Frogarama,it is very annoying and the clip too

reply

It's annoying, never liked it.

reply

It was used to a somewhat good effect in "Under the Skin" (2013).

reply

It does kinda sound like a cross between Sash! and Paul van Dyk with a little bit of ATB (remember "9PM Till I Come"?) and Faithless on the side.

reply

I kinda like this TOTP (Top of the Pops, and does anyone in UK and outside it remember that show?) performance of it, in July 2000 -

My question is: why do you think that a 20 year-old track that you personally only rate 6/10 is even worthy of discussion in the first place?

reply

The song itself just caught my mental attention these days. :)

reply

Fair enough.

To answer your question directly, I don't like it at all. It sounds like someone Auto-tuned a telephone busy signal (remember those?) into a poor approximation of music.

That said, I've never been a fan of electronic music for the most part. Massive Attack is about as far down that road as I will go.

reply

Your reply - hilarious GOLD, lol, hahaha. :)

reply

But as far as ELECTRONIC music is concerned, you say you never liked it?

So you never really appreciated bands like -

Kraftwerk, Yello, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Pet Shop Boys, Faithless, Depeche Mode, BT, Air, Air Liquide, The Shamen, Orbital, The Orb, Future Sound of London, etc, either?

reply

Here is where we run into the eternal problem of attempting to categorize music.

I dislike the electronic music genre, in the most general sense. But I'm actually a fan of Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys. I would add Nine Inch Nails to that list, especially for their capacity for cross-pollinating electronic music with rock.

In the same respect, I could go all the way back to Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy" to cite works for which I have a deep appreciation. In my view, Nine Inch Nails never becomes a popular force without those records.

reply

Cool, have you heard any other acts I mentioned? And isn't Nine Inch Nails more industrial rock than electronic music?

reply

Because it's a known troll tool, similar to Rickrolling.

reply

I listen to it while masturbating.

reply

After Rickrolling got boring this song took its place. Like this:
