Swiss Family Robinson

I loved this growing up! The awesome treehouse, the fighting of pirates, the sweet tropical locale. I've heard some aren't really into it. What do you think, yea or nay? Also I loved Shipwrecked from 1990. Stranded on an island movies are my jam.

reply

Definitely yea.

*Pillaging the ship wreck for all it's worth. One just wants them to go back again & again & again......

*The natural rivalry between the 2 eldest sons.

*Seeing Hayakawa so soon after "Kwai" & grateful to him for taking the role here. It a stroke of genius to have asked him. He's got that same damn edge he displayed in "Kwai!"

I loved Castaway...im not sure i could perform in-cave dental procedures on myself but i suppose i'd give it a go if i had to

reply

That scene makes me cringe! I assume you saw that Frogarama called Cast Away in that emoji game. It was a man, a desert island, and a volleyball

reply

Yes
I was defeated once again by The Frog!!!!
Love that one lol🐸

That was a good classic Disney film for sure. I loved seeing and climbing the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse at Disneyland when I was a kid. Sadly, they changed the treehouse to the Tarzan house; it is not nearly as cool....

I think they changed the treehouse shortly after the Tarzan movie came out. However, at Disney's World Magic Kingdom, they still have the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse so that's cool.

In Search of the Castaways is another Disney favorite of mine. Also The Moon-Spinners. I crushed on Peter McEnery in that one.

Thanks for these recommendations, I'll add all of those to the list.

Sweet. The Island is on Amazon Prime. Sounds really good.

reply

So I just watched The Island. It was kind of a mind-fuck and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Overall, I though it was very good.

Have you seen "The Return" (2003). Another Russian film that reminded me of it for some reason.

reply

Have you ever seen another movie called "The Island?" 1980. Stars Michael Caine & David Warner, and concerns modern day piracy & forced sexual relations. It's a little sick & twisted, but, serviceable. The ending keeps on going which is a disappointment.

reply

Actually, I saw that one very recently for the first time. Worth watching, but didn't care for it very much. It reminded me of The Hills Have Eyes (1977), except on water lol.

reply

You hit it precise, Pa.

Though when she takes that handful of homemade KY Jelly and slaps it on him, I perked up. She was a feisty little rascal.

reply

Big Michael Caine fan even though he will take any roll lol..

Any time he attempts an American accent it's a disaster

reply

Definitely. "Peachy Carnahan"---I God's, Pa. Begs him to come away from it. Dravot just won't do it.

Arguably the best movie ever made. The beginning is so wonderful, I get chills thinking about it.

I may have to indulge myself with it tonight.

Russia puts out some good movies. Another one with a bleak setting and sad story, yet well made, is Leviathan.

I like Swiss Family Robinson as I had a crush on James MacArthur. (I'm assuming you're talking about the 1960 version.) Haven't watched it in quite a while, though.

reply

Yes, I haven't seen any other version besides the 1960 one.

reply

I believe there was a television series starring Martin Milner from Adam-12.

reply

I have to say I feel quite the opposite about movies like that, especially if people are stuck on the island for years!
