would you meet someone from online?

someone you chat with online, would you meet them offline?
I think location would be an issue, and the cost of getting to where
they live.
do you chat with people on here on other sites, via IM, email,
Skype discord anything else? maybe on the phone, via text messaging.
would you, have you, meet/met someone offline you know from online?

reply

I've met two people I knew from online. Both I'd corresponded with via email for years, both were travelling out my way and wanted to visit.

A couple more I got to know well enough to eventually talk with on the phone, and we still talk and email, years later.

I have. It was relatively early in the internet age, before there were so many creeps and "bad guys" around online. We originally "met" in an AOL NASCAR chatroom. We'd been chatting for at least a year. He lives in North Carolina and we were both in Chicago on business, so we arranged to meet for a drink. We ended up going to a little jazz club, which was something I'd never done before. We had a nice time. We were actually chatting online at the time the Twin Towers were hit on 9/11.

I think we chatted for about five years, and during that time, his wife died suddenly. He had ideas of us getting together, but I told him it wasn't in the cards. He eventually met someone new, and when he told me she didn't really like the idea of his chatting with another woman, I said we should end our conversations. I certainly didn't want to jeopardize his real-life relationship.

One thing I noticed when I was chatting is the amount of married people that seemed to be searching for more. Not necessarily there for that purpose but over time ending up that way. I knew many people whose marriages became rocky or outright failed when I was chatting years ago.

ever since seeing the movie Catfish, hell no!
