Happy International Women's Day 2018! (The first thread and also the one where women aren't attacking each other)

Admiral Akbar even appears in one of the infantilising Google doodles depicting half of humanity.

This thread is solely for the motherkin, those who use the energy of Maia to create and enrich and not destroy and attack. Please keep that kind of stuff in the thread provided for it: https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/5aa1237c9d77890014292e37/I-of-all-men-have-every-right-to-congratulate-International-Womens-Day

EDIT: Fixed title and added the part about this being a peaceful thread.

Happy mother's day to all moviechat ladies!

Is this a joke ???

reply

No,why?

reply

It's not Mother's Day

reply

Around here, Mother's Day is usually the opening weekend of the fishing season. As you can imagine, some mothers don't like this. 😬

reply

Don't they get the day to themselves and not have to worry about anything then?

reply

That's what I'd be thinking! One Mother's Day I took myself to a baseball game and I had a ball because it was the first time in years that I'd gone.

But I think some mothers don't like being left at home with the kiddies while dad goes out and has fun.

reply

Ah right! In my dimly optimistic view of the world daddy took the kids fishing and lets mommy do whatever she wants for herself that day.

Didn't their dads take them fishing when they were young after all?

reply

Yes they did - sorry to interrupt - but these days, the kids go to clubs.

reply

Hiya Croft!

It's an open conversation, you're certainly not interrupting.

I reckon clubs have a place in the world, but a bit of the countryside with your father learning some survival skills is a very magical experience which cannot be provided the same way at clubs.

reply

I know it very well,i go very often with my father, even now when i'm older.

reply

We are celebrating today,so i thought it is polite from me to say it.

reply

Sorry to disappoint but not all women are mothers

reply

You're right.

reply

Happy international mothers day. 22 countries celebrate this mothers day on March the 8th. Ours is the second week of May.

Great, maybe I can share my opinion here without being shamed for it!:

True equality should not be commemorated, but simply be put into practice. And showing support for women who are still suffering around the world should happen EVERY day. Special days like this one are just silly, meaningless gimmicks that can be used as an excuse to forget about it the rest of the year. It's like Christmas being the time for peace on earth. As a woman I have to say, I don't get it either.

reply

I do take your point Stratego and to some extent I agree.
I'd like to see the day when equality is a natural occurrence. When same sex marriage is just marriage.
When positive discrimination is unnecessary and the best candidate gets the job. There won't be MOBO awards, there won't need to be.Women will feel safe and not repressed by a patriarchal society and the Oscar people won't have to be reminded to nominate and vote for so called minorities!
You said it though- it should happen every day and until it does I don't see any harm in a gentle nudge in the right direction.

On a side note the celebration day that gets me is Valentines!

reply

Thing is, I just feel there's an insincerity behind many of those celebration days. It just seems to be about pandering or money a lot of the time, especially when big organizations and companies are involved. So often I have to think of those girls kidnapped by Boko Haram and I just don't get why nobody is doing anything about it! I care about them, not about another naked Kartrashian supposedly being bodyshamed!

Oh, I'm no fan of Valentine's Day either! I guess those celebration days are not for me...unless drinking is involved!😁
