What kind of restaurants do you eat at during road trips?

On our annual trips to Las Vegas and the West Coast, my parents and I like to stop at a place called the "Iron Skillet". While I know it's a restaurant chain, we like stopping there when we're in Nebraska. Other places we go to are Denny's and various other casual dining and fast food restaurants.

So you mean local businesses? Those tend to be out of the way of the Interstate, though.

But I guess one should step out of their comfort zone sometimes....

Yeah, I suppose.

It all depends on the time of the day, where I am and if I'm on schedule.

We have an Iron Skillet and it has a great breakfast.
If it's late or really early I'll stop at whatever is open. Preferably not a chain.
If it's during the day I'll venture into town and see what's up.

Seems like a good plan!

I usually keep it to large diners or established food chains...the roadside shacks are intriguing (lots of regional things i might not see again for a while...) but unless they are crowded with locals i wont chance it

I have a very strict 'no GI Problems on road trips' policy

Oh boy...those might be quite the stories to tell....

I love a good story but have happily avoided amassing any of that sort thus far...and i mean to keep it so😉

I've only been on one road trip so far, but it was a long one, to make up for a lack of quantity -- coast to coast.

I would have loved to have had the time to meander and eat at local dining spots. I did that some, but most of the time I just needed to grab something to eat along the interstate, so it was a lot of fast food stuff that litter the freeways.

Have you ever had an In 'n Out burger? It is fast food, but it's *very good* fast food. Everything's fresh and freshly cooked.

I have had In 'n Out long time ago. I think it was pretty good but I don't remember very well.

It depends on how long the trip is, but if I'm on a solo road trip I usually just grab something at McDonalds (this is the only time I eat fast food). Longer trips or traveling with someone, we often go to Perkins.
