Movies that scarred you?

"The Innocents" with Deborah Kerr.

One day, I come home from school early, and found my babysitter, who was a big film snob, in the middle of watching a black and white movie. Now, being a '90s kid, and thus wired to find anything in black and white contemptible, I begged her to watch something else (our lower/middle class status confined us to only one TV). She refused and so I reluctantly screened "The Innocents" with her ... I shouldn't have. Something about this film -- the music, the performances, the eerie atmosphere -- got to me, despite my initial resistance, and I found myself, for several nights after, toss and turning, unable to expunge from my head "The Innocent"'s oddly unsettling imagery and soundscapes.

The saw series.

One of the first foreign movies I ever saw was Seppuku.

Seeing a man kill himself in that way.

It left an impression on me for a long time.

Cannibal Holocaust

That was on a list of the most disturbing films of all time. I have seen some of the films on the list, but after reading a plot summary I though "Nah, baba, nah!"

Fire in the Sky. I think I was only 6 years old. Thanks, Dad!

A couple runner ups:
El Topo
Gummo

Similarly to Fire in the Sky, "Communion" is the alien movie that scarred me as a kid.

The thing is, I was 13!

Fire in the Sky is a genuinely creepy movie. Had another rewatch just a few weeks back.

I've seen one part of it, and I definitely agree. Never got around to watching the rest, but I know I should.

Its based on a true story too. Travis Walton really did go missing for 5 days. It reminds me of a story I read a few days ago. A firefighter took a ski trip with colleagues in NY State, went missing and was found a week later in California wearing still his ski gear.

The Homesman

There was a scene early in the movie where a woman throws her baby down an outhouse toilet. It was so unexpected and realistic looking, it really got to me.
