Will TV shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones" age well?

Or will they be ignored and forgotten tomorrow as once popular serial dramas like "Hill Street Blues" and "ER" are today?

reply

I think breaking bad is already forgotten.

I think both will fall into the dustbins of television history. GOT is definitely fadish just like all the independent shows from the 1970's that investigated UFO's, bigfoot, Lochness Monster, etc.. At one time there were a good half dozen on with Leonard Nimoy's "In Search Of" being the most recognizable. BB was more down to earth but had more than a few contrivances such as the guy bringing Walt stuff at the very end of the series when the same guy could have turned Walt in to the authorities for much more money. Now that the suspense of a new episode has long past people will more and more nitpick the contrivances.

Hmm you could compare them to Twin Peaks or the X files both were popular, remain well beloved and have enjoyed a resurgence.
But who knows,us viewers are fickle.

I think it all depends on rewatch value. There are some shows i will buy because i know that i will enjoy revisiting them from time to time.Other shows are just good for a one time viewing.I loved Breaking bad and Dexter. They were both great shows. But i can't see myself sitting down and rewatching them ever again. Some shows just have a been there done that feeling and just fade into the background.

Well I've gone through Breaking Bad 2 times and Game of Thrones 5 times, both age extraordinarily well so far.

reply

I think both will endure.
