Jodie Foster slams superhero movies

While I agree with it in principle it's part of the evolution of movies.

I don't like superhero movies so I just don't watch them.
People obviously do like them though. People continue to go and Hollywood continues to make them.
Until there's a shift it will continue.
People seem to want to see more of these kind of CGI fantasy movies.
With ticket prices up and revenue down Hollywood will have to adjust somehow.
Doesn't necessarily mean it will be for the better though.

There are now less movies being made
Actors, directors etc... are making more money now. That's even considering the actors are actually doing
less "acting" and relying more on CGI.
Hollywood has lost it's courage. It's lost it's originality.
It can't afford to take a chance on making movies with new ideas anymore.
These movies, remakes, reboots, ones it knows people will go see. Something familiar to them.
Hollywood now is up against more outside sources than ever before.

At some time they will have to figure it out.

Good post
I love that CGI/superhero/star wars stuff but i get your points
Independent and DTV films give a lot of bang for the buck...production values are usually low and the acting can be 'iffy' but good stories are still being told...heck once in a blue moon i find a real winner that i wish had a wider release
I wont stop watching the big 'splosion!! movies but until H'wood grows a new pair ill happily haunt the seedier theaters and streaming sources for unheralded beauties
They are out there
Long live the indies

My favorite part is that they use CGI to make "fantasy" movies more "realistic".
It's almost like an idiom.

Very true there are good movies being made. Doesn't have to come out of Hollywood.
Let's not forget Foreign movies.
Plenty of good movies coming out of other countries.

reply

True about the CGI pics..God i love 'em but true
As for foreign i cant get enough...S Korea, Italy, Mexico, France...so many others
If it werent for 'foreign' films id like the movies a lot less!
But dont get me started on Bollywood😉

reply

I gotta be coming close to have seen more foreign than English.
Especially in the last several years.

There's no way I would ever get you started on Bollywood.
Believe me.

reply

Bollywood is way too tame for North American audiences imo

reply

Nothing wrong with tame and I think it does have a place.
Whether people like it or not it's still art.

I do agree though. It seems that most people here are looking for something different.

reply

If they could come up with some Indian superheros it might catch on.

reply

lol

They must have some superhero who could save Mumbai.

Funny!
Ive watched scenes of a SpiderMan/SuperMan ripoff and the guy (and his pretty Indian ladyfriend) were flying around punching crooks, singing disco style and dancing their asses off
It was kind of funny in a weird way...on youtube if youre curious

reply

Yeah foreign stuff is really great
The B'wood...a lot of behavior i dont understand, cheesy fight scenes, cute Indian gals singing then...BLAM!
Crazy dancing!!
Just too weird even for me

reply

Cheesy fights, cute gals singing then...Blam, Crazy dancing.
That sounds exactly like my party last night.

Not my thing either but these movies really aren't made for us.
Also to be fair I really haven't seen too many.

reply

Wish i was at your party
We could have done a mean Watusi!
I hosted family kiddie sleepover night and lit a fire and baked a cake with them all (what a loud and messy night!)

Yeah, Bollywood really doesnt 'translate' that well
They are popping up all over Netflix recently so maybe ill chance it again
Pray for me😳

reply

You did what you had to do. You're a good dad.

I had a kiddie party too. Only thing all the kids at my house were over 30.
Actually had a couple of them sleepover too. Not their choice though.
I'll agree with a loud a messy night.

reply
