It’s written in the same weasel language as their announcement on shutting down the boards. Here’s the translation:

“Dear Loyal Imdb Users,

We’re screwing everyone again. Sucks to be you.

Warm regards,

Imdb”

That site seems to want to commit suicide. At least in terms of user interaction. It's a shell of its former self. I've noticed that even contributions to just the plain factual data on film pages is dropping off. I still look up things like filming locations on there -- and the information is frequently missing now. So their "database" isn't even that great of a database anymore -- because they relied on actual members/users to fill in their blanks for them, then they alienated us all.

reply

What members? Everyone left that site.

reply

Members/users with an account there can still click on a button "Edit Page", or contribute a review. You can still contribute information and movie reviews.

Some people who enjoyed contributing stuff are still there doing that, even though there are no forums to post on anymore.

But I see a lot of missing information now on recent movies, like the people who used to like to contribute don't bother anymore.

they are scum

reply

Yep, agreed.

I hate to go there -- sometimes it's the only place to get a specific piece of info on a movie. But I try now to avoid IMDb and find the Wiki on a movie's information instead.

Before they closed the message boards I went there 5 or 6 days a week. Since they have closed I have been there 2 or 3 times. And that was just to find out the name of some actresses I had seen in movies. Did not even have to log on to find out. Hope they regret closing the boards.

reply

They are laughing at us.

reply

I wonder if it's anything Jim can archive. I didn't use the character pages much, but I can see it had value.

reply

I've always found the character pages totally useless, so it doesen't bother me one bit that they're getting rid of them. I guess some people used them so it sucks for them.

reply

Was IMDB bought by Google a while back? Is that why it's turning into a POS?

reply

I thought IMDB was owned by Amazon, and that most of the important stuff was showing up at Amazon.

reply

Has been owned by Amazon for a long time.

reply

Thanks for the correction. I'm surprised, thought better of Amazong. The changes they're making seemed more like something Google would do.
