Merry Christmas Alien...i like you

reply

That sounds good. Thanks and Merry Christmas, shogun! I like you, too.

reply

I hate christmas...songs....they repeat all over the same subject.

reply

Its true that they seem repetitive...not a big fan of holiday music myself tbh Croft
But i suppose the 'glad tidings' and 'best wishes' etc are pretty comforting in a way...a 'universal' way of saying 'hi, i hope all is well, lets all be nice to each other...'
Its really pretty sweet if we think about it...

reply

In a way yes...

Shogun, it would be if it were true, but it's not, and hasn't been for years. By the way, White Christmas was written by Cole Porter for his Broadway Show, Holiday Inn, and was sung by Bing Crosby and about a million other people, and is the reason why tunesmiths insist on churning out Christmas dreck. White Christmas (what? no diversity?!) has made a fucking FORTUNE, and the music industry keeps hoping that somehow, by accident, it will come up with a duplicate of that financial success. See? Nothing warm or spiritual about it. The motive is sheer, crass greed.

The song that I nominate is O Holy Night. "Fall on your knees/O hear the angel voices/O night devine/O night when Christ was born/0 night, O holy night/O night devine." It's my favorite hymnal refrain.

reply

I respect your song choice...not a bad one by any means my friend RKane:)
But im not giving up on everyone just yet...

That is a wonder idea, Shogun, but it is one that I am going to, most respectfully, decline for personal reasons. I know that you will understand. Happy Holidays!

Growing up in the sixties, most of the songs on this album became my favorite Christmas songs:

Some of the tracks are available on YouTube, such as:

Maurice Chevalier's "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7c1aT0Oe18
Dinah Shore's "The Twelve Days of Christmas" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b5LSpJ1wUc

A few others:

Ella Fitzgerald's "O Come All Ye Faithful" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtYcaXIwPaY [But I really prefer the latin version, "Adeste Fideles"]
Tennessee Ernie Ford's "Sing We Now of Christmas" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUD30QfYMLI
And a spanish carol from the renaissance, "Riu, riu chiu", recorded by many groups, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ntpw4PJ0QM
