How many times a week do you get asked for directions by a stranger?

I get asked everyday especially when I am trying to relax. It's starting to annoy me. Maybe I get asked because I look like I a genius or something.😐

How about you?

reply

Almost never, but when I go abroad I almost always get asked for directions, as if I look like a local.

reply

I always look like I'm lost so nobody ever bothers me.
It works wonders.

reply

Haha..the perks of looking like you're lost.

reply

Cool thing is I don't have to try very hard.
It kind of comes natural.

reply

I'm jealous.

reply

Maybe we can do a Freaky Friday thing and switch places.
You can look like you're lost for a day and
I can look like a genius for a day.
I'd like to know how that feels at least one time in my life. ;)

reply

Ooh yeah...all the girls will hunting youπŸ˜‰

reply

It hapenes sometimes when i walk to home and a driver ask me in what direction is that place...i found it suspicious more then once.

I worked in Lower Manhattan for 15 years near all the touristy stuff, so it used to be a daily occurrence. I also used to get asked to take pics for people all the time. I'm a fatty, so I guess they thought I was the least likely to run away with their camera.

It never bothered me. I actually enjoyed it because it gave me a chance to chat up people visiting from all over the world.

I was always asked when I was backpacking elsewhere.. Of course, those were some of the most popular international cities, so it wasn't a surprise, and I tried to help as much as I could.

When I was 22, I first went to Amsterdam over the New Years... It was about midnight, and I was lost, so I asked this girl who was on a bike taking a break. She pointed and said "Remebrandtplein is that way.. I think, I'm not sure, I'm a law student from Italy" and I thanked her, and we parted... A few minutes later, I see the girl coming from behind me, walking her bike saying "I'll help you find it" and we tried looking for 5 hours! We talked a lot (more than the "Before Sunset" movies!), we did stop to get a bite to eat, but it was cold, and it was so nice of her. When we finally got to my hotel, I asked if she wanted to come up to warm up, have some hot tea, but she was tired... Wish I would have kept in touch, I ended going to The Netherlands another 5 times, who knows.

reply

Sounds like a scenario of a crime drama. You're lucky she didn't rob you.

reply

Hahaha! She's lucky I didn't steal her bike, lol...

reply

I studied in Amsterdam for 4 years and even I couldn't give you directions to Rembrandtplein...

reply

Stratego is very popular there! About 10 years ago, I played it for the first time, and never played chess since...

reply

That's because it's actually a Dutch game! Despite using it as my username, I actually suck at it very hard.

reply

Great game
Never knew it was Dutch

reply

Yeah, it was invented by some Jewish guy while in hiding during WWII and based on a similar French game.

It's a very frustrating game! That's why I use it as my moniker.:)

reply

Its a perfect fit:)

reply

This is simplifying the game.. but I describe it like chess PLUS memorization, considering you can't see their pieces until there is encroachment, and I love that added dimension.

I had the game, but left it at a hostel in Australia.

reply

I think I might have it... Was it Koala Backpackers in Noosa?

reply

I left it at a hostel in Melbourne :)

reply

I'm not good at chess,either.

reply

I'm even worse at chess.

reply

Actually the chess origins are in india...i think sixth century, then it spreads in persia and china....anyway,in my childhood i played game cards, like poker and others.

reply

Did I ever say chess did not originate there???

reply

Almost never
Pretty much everyone has a phone around here...no need to bug a stranger...

reply

my mommy told me never talk to strangers,

reply

Mommy was right

reply

And yet you do on Movie Chat.😯

reply

well, she never said anything about typing to strangers,

reply

not much at all now with phones and GPS

reply

Yup. Once in a blue moon I still get asked. But back in the 90s it was almost a daily occurrence. And when I worked gas stations, it was basically part of my job.

reply

I had a summer job back in the 80s with the City of Toronto Parks Dept and I wore a uniform - everyday someone would stop me and ask where some street was - I was 18 and barely knew my own neighborhood.

reply

Um excuse me....can you tell me where I can find the nearest McDonald's?πŸ˜›
