Least favorite genre
Superhero movies. They are as ubiquitous today as bible epics and westerns were in the fifties. And like most westerns and bible epics of yore: they suck.

shareSome of those westerns from the 40s and 50s were great movies. I agree with you on superhero movies.
shareI love the Marvel ones
Ill say Rom-Com or Family Drama...
Fuck that noise
Yup..romantic comedies! Even a family drama upon occasion is nice...you know...around Christmas...romantic comedies might act as a decent distraction during a proctologist visit, but that would be it!
shareI'll totally agree on superhero movies.
I'll fight you on westerns all day long.
There were a lot in those days but some are brilliant.
Didn't need special effects to be good.
Are remakes or no originality a genre?
If so then I vote for this.
AT, I agree with you completely, but may we amend your choice of generic nomenclature from Superhero to Comic Book. I recently suffered through 40 minutes of Southland Tales, which I gather is based on a comic book series, before giving up on it. If the loathesome John Wick franchise is drawn from a comic book series (and I am not devoting one iota if effort to research that), then my suggestion is even more urgent. This class of film is porn for boys who are too young to be able to jerk off.
shareI'm down with your amendment. Any time a movie boasts it's based on a comic book I usually know what movie I won't be watching that weekend.
May I also suggest: the genre of Based on a Hasboro Toy or a Video Game? It all ties back to prepubescent boys who can't whack off but who nonetheless pay to see alleged movies.
shareToy or video game movies are just one long ad. Sickening.
You mean like Transformers? I didn't watch that movie, but I assume I would hate it.
The Transformers movies are unwatchable crap
Dont know what i expected tbh
I guess they would be aimed at kids? Or I'm thinking people who are supposed to be nostalgic for this stuff. Did there used to be a stereo? haha. I did watch the cartoon way back when a little bit.
shareYeah i think they were going for nostalgia..wound up giving me vertigo lol
Fast cuts/CGI overload/ no way to make sense of what was smashing what...the cartoon was better by a mile
With this "dumbed-down " version of Hollywood people continue to go see these movies.
There's no incentive for them to be original anymore. Remaking movies that weren't even good
in the first place. Having basically one story and just retelling in a different way with different
characters. The automatons continue to flurry to the theaters.
Why would Hollywood change?
Older (pre 70's) Westerns are a bit corny imo
I like a lot of the newer ones...
Some are a little corny I'll give you that.
Others are brilliant. Classic struggles and unbelievable cinematography.
The Searchers
Once Upon a Time in the West
Man Who shot Liberty Valance.
To name a few.
Never saw Liberty
The other two were great tho true enough

High Noon and Shane were great for sure! Real classics!
Never saw Clementine and Stagecoach was a bit hokey imo...i like westerns to be darker, everybody is a drifter asshole, violence is sudden and realistic looking and blood...i prefer the 'newer' post '60s ones...but good examples!
"Hud" and some of the westerns James Stewart did with Anthony Mann are worth one's time.
"The Searchers" is about the only movie with The Duke in it that I can tolerate.
Mann's noir westerns in the 50's were epic.
He made a name for himself and kind of rejuvenated Stewart's career.
Showing now Stewart could play in these kind of darker roles.
Far Country is my favorite. Man From Laramie might be the best one they did.
I agree with Superhero/comic movies. I don't even watch them. I have seen a couple, but that was it. I know people love them, but maybe its my lack of loving comics that makes me think they are terrible. After that it would be action police type movies, oh my goodness....too annoying.
shareHorrors. Horrors are not scary, they are just movies, men in silly make up wearing silly dresses. The genre is full of cheap cliches like doors that close itself, lamps that turn on and off frantically, cats jumping out of nowhere, or the variations. If you've seen one horror movie you've seen them all.
How can somebody be scared of horror movies is beyond me. More specifically silly is the "found footage" sub-genre. That is just plain dum dum right there. I'd rather watch paint dry. At least superhero movies don't pretend that they were real.
Horror is my favorite
Its more about style and atmosphere with horror...i agree its hard to really get scared as an adult...i found Sinister from a few years ago to be really creepy...It Follows was also pretty unsettling!
We are due for a new variation of Batman............................................ Producers and fanboys whining that only their latest incarnation is gritty, true, and "realistic" enough. As much as I liked Batman as a youth there is no way to put that "universe" in the context of reality. Especially in the Dozier/West incarnation. After about the second parole from Gotham State Pen of the Riddler, Joker, etc. you know there would be a vigilante group of some kind to fill any archvillain full of lead the second his or her parole took effect. At least Dozier and West did not treat the material as though they were doing Shakespeare even though they could have reigned the camp in just a little bit.
shareBatman the character is such a dud, which explains why in every iteration of The Dark Knight it's the villains, not the Bat, that people remember and enjoy.
Superman too, when you get around to it, is a pretty lame character in his own right

What are Blokey films...is that some cute little English expression? I bet it is;)
And Oh c'mon...have you no joy!?!?
Most of those were awesome action movies sheesh!!!
Its gonna be hard to make this friendship work...but dammit im gonna put in the time!
