Humor
Someone in another post was wondering if it's gotten worse or better..... I think it's got much worse.. Very vulgar and trivial, with no point of view. There's no satire... People think bitchery, mockery, and parody is satire... I'm talking a literate and humorous x-ray of society, and an onslaught, biting, dangerous.. That said, I also never cared for the slapstick, screwball stuff especially prominent in the 1930s, 40s, etc...
Just look at the stand-ups that probably set a lot of the tone, parameters.
I can only speak for the US, but after Mark Twain and Will Rogers, true stand-up emerged with Mort Sahl. Before him you had nothing except burlesque and vaudeville, and the occasional stupid mother-in-law joke.... Sahl is STILL (at 90) the best guy out there, but the 70s had George Carlin.... Bill Hicks is probably the 2nd best comedian ever, who was around in the 80s and early 90s..
And the same goes for the movies... Go and watch "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" - it's still MUCH funnier, witty, and more relevant today than ever, and that was made over 40 years ago..
I could give many examples, but curious what you all think.
