Tell me about your animal(s)

Past or present, I don't care.

The things that were or are so funny and endearing to you about them. You animal people know what I mean; they're as individual as we are, and all do things that make them so memorable to us. So have at it, tell me about them!

I love how our rabbits had their own personality. Shy, stubborn, relaxed. I love how they had their own favourite spots in the room (under the table or behind the couch). I love how they allowed you to kiss them all over until they made very clear they had enough! Or how they would walk up the stairs in the morning and jump on the bed to get a hug (and pee all over the sheets!). One of them even went to sit next to my dad on the couch every night to be petted. Oh, how he missed her when she was gone. I never expected to care so much about these silly, little critters. So much so, that I can't even think of getting another pet. I couldn't stand the pain of seeing them suffer and be without them again. Life is crappy enough!

I love reading this! Thank you, and I'm very sorry for your heartbreaking loss of your sick bunnies you posted about on the other thread.

I didn't know bunnies give kisses. How wonderful :)

I know how you feel all too well, believe me. The pain of seeing them suffer and being without them sucks mightily. But, they bring us such joy.

reply

Well, I was actually the one giving them kisses all the time. But yes, they'd lick your hand or your face. They even licked your tears, I'm sure they loved the salty taste, but it was strangely comforting!

Thanks for your sweet words. And I'm so sorry for your loss, but you made a very brave decision. I know dogs can be so very loyal and a full member of the family. I'd love to get a dog, I turn my head to every dog I see on the street! But like I said, I don't want to go through the pain of losing them again.

Growing up, we had dogs. I remember our beautiful Cocker spanial, Lad. He was with us through most of my childhood. He died of old age.

During my marriage, we had gerbils and hamsters and fish. Oh MY!. Those were all our son's. They also taught him that we all must eventually leave this world. He begged us for a cat when he was seven, so we took a kitten from the neighbor, who's cat had a litter. Our son named the kitten Katie. She was ours to the ripe old age of 17 years old. our son had left home several years before her departure.
My husband and I adopted our second little girl cat. We named her Winky because she had eye trouble and winked a great deal. She was a sweet little girl. She lived to be 10. She died last March.
In April we adopted a boy cat. That's our Charlie. He is one big boy, but only a little over a year old. He isn't fat. He's just big for a kitten. He's very frisky and playful. He also loves to be cuddled. He sleeps with us all night. He starts out in a ball between us and then he stretches out and shoves us to the edge of the bed on both sides. He is definitely a bed hog! We absolutely love him though.
Oh! I almost forgot! In between Katie and Winky, there was our love bird. His name was Chirpy. I'm not sure of how old he was when we got him. A friend gave him to us. Someone had abandoned him in the apartment house that our friend was living in. He was wonderful! We had him for 7 years before he passed on. A LOVELY bird! Very sweet. We liked letting him fly about and sit on our shoulders. At night or when we were at work, back in his cage he would go.

I enjoy volunteering at the animal shelter. I go help out a few times a month. I would love to take so many of those babies home if I could. All that I can do is to play with them and show them love until they are adopted. That is the best part! i love it when my favorites get a home!

I love all the little different personalities. Our Katie always wanted to be a part of the action. If we were doing something she wanted to be right in the middle of things.
Winky was shy and delicate. She was a one person cat. MINE! She always waited on the chair by the door and greeted us when we came in and always had to have a cuddle before I took off my coat. She would lay on my chest at night until I went to sleep.
Charlie just loves everyone! He and my husband are great buddies. He just seems to be happy all of the time. I am so glad that he's a part of our family now. I have no doubt that he is just as glad. As a mater of fact, he is here right now. Each letter that is typed is a source of amazement to him. He sit's here and watches the screen. He is so pretty. Black and white velvety fur.

When i was a kid,my uncle gave me a puppy...i raised him like a child, between us was a special connection,it was very loyal to my family, especially me.I remember that when i was playing with him his eyes glowed when he got nervous.Anyway, one time i was away in another town for two days, but i sensed imediatly that somethings wrong and the next morning,i took a bus to home. When i arrived at home i found him...it was a wreck, very ill...i wanted so much to hug him,but my mother said to me don't don it,he's contagious. In that same night he died,he hold on until i was back...i couldn't even burie him,i asked my father to do it.Of course,we had many dogs after him,but i never had the same bond again.

I am the proud owner of a 7.5 year old female pet Congo African Grey Parrot named Aziza, whom I purchased at a really reputable pet store south of Boston. She talks, mimics the touchtone phone, the microwave, the sound of the timer, or the sound of a truck or bus backing up...beautifully. She's wonderful to have around, and I couldn't imagine living without her now.

reply

Oh! Aziza sounds like such a cool bird! Lots of fun, I'll bet.

reply

Thanks, MissMargoChanning! Aziza is a cool bird, and tons of fun! Since African Grey Parrots are also whistlers by nature, Aziza does a lot of that, too. I have to admit that the first thing I taught her was the Jet-gang whistle from West Side Story, which she does beautifully!

My cats are crazy.

One has a bottomless stomach.

The other one loves to isolate.

They both follow me around like puppies.

😂 I've used that line many times over the years. Supposedly it was an ad-lib.

It's a classic, and probably so. The entire golfing the flowers scene in Caddyshack was a Bill Murray ad lib.
