Anyone like camping?

During the day do some hiking, fishing, exploring and bike riding. Then my favorite part. Sitting around campfire cooking hot dogs and marshmallows. And of course some ice cold beers! It can be just the two of us like in the first pic or a bunch of us like in the second pic. Either way it is great fun! Anyone else like to camp? Got any camping stories?

I used to love camping as a teenager, but haven't gone in many years. I do love sleeping in a tent, cooking over wood coals, reading by lantern before bed...

The problem with tent camping is that you are forced to use the public facilities, and no one teaches their kids (or is it them) how to use a toilet without covering it with urine and feces.

If I go camping again (grandkids perhaps), I'll rent a hotel room up the road where I can S/S/S in comfort when needed.

I like camping as long as I can sleep at a Holiday Inn

Living here in Western Oregon, I did a lot of great camping with friends and gfs for about 15 years. The USFS termed it "dispersed camping." We car-camped with tents, but we tried to get away from people, just so we could do what we wanted and not bother anyone. Sometimes we'd play music, sometimes we'd enjoy the quiet. Two nights was the norm, with a nice hike on the middle day. Very relaxing, the cool air at night is refreshing from the hot summer air during the day.

But I never got into Fishing. It's not called Catching for a reason, and I never really liked the idea of snagging some poor dumb critter out of the water, then gutting it, etc. I'm not against it, and I did some fishing when I was little, but it never caught on as a fun hobby. I just enjoy sitting around, hopefully with agreeable company, and watch that river roll by, or watch the clouds change and see what birds show up (if you are more into mountain camping), get that fire going, make some fun camp food, some brewskies, look at the stars, talk about life out in the fresh air. Just Wonderful.

"The Blair Witch Project" pretty much ruined camping for me.

My family used to go camping every summer when I was a kid. All over California, mostly in the Sierras. It was van+tent camping, usually in campgrounds with ranger stations or other campers, not like back country backpacking wilderness camping. But of course in those days we didn't have any portable electronics, so it was a week with no TV, and even very little radio because once you got into a canyon or valley, the AM radio in the van went out.

I have only been a few times as an adult and I do prefer a few more creature comforts now like flushing toilets and showers, but I wish I could go more often. I love nature and I love swimming in lakes and rivers. Floating down a lazy river in an innertube. I love exploring.
I love day hikes (like just carrying your lunch and water and a jacket) but I don't like backpacking where you have to carry a 60 lb pack up a mountain.
I have lots of favorite places-
Lake Tahoe
Yosemite (Camped in several different campgrounds)
Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Lava Beds National Monument
Lake Shasta
Devils Postpile National Monument
June Lake/Silver Lake/Grant lake (chain of lakes)
Milsap Bar (middle fork of Feather River)
and so many lakes and rivers I don't even know the names of.
