shareSurely it's the bad movies that need remakes. I don't see the point in remaking good movies. But if you can improve on the bad one, why not?

It's a good point. However the execution fails.
If it's a bad movie then It's bad. Nothing you can do can improve on this.

Good movies should never be remade. Yet they are. Over and over and over and over.
Our buddy Christopher Nolan is remaking one of the few good movies he's done. Memento.

There is plenty you can improve on in a bad movie, if it's in the hands of capable people, who are not being limited by a bunch of suits in a conference room. And you already know at least some of what didn't work.
Wait, since when is Nolan (NOLAAAN!!!) remaking Memento? What's to remake in it? Is he going to make it longer and stuff it full of so much exposition it's no longer a movie? I mean, he is aiming for the dummies in the audience as of late, even if he's going for high concept stuff like "black holes make time wonky" and "dreams, eh. weird things happen in them"*, so it makes sense to remake it, just to explain it all in 27 long scenes of people telling you what's happend in the movie so far. That'll surely rake in the cash!

Ha! D.J. Qualls. The man is almost 40 years old, and yet I still see him as a teenager. That casting would be perfect actually. But I'd still like Tom Hardy to just be on set. As long as he keeps silent.

rehashing this again. Unless of course if it was only to make you happy.

Right now I'm hearing Hardy with one of his silly voices saying it.
I would like a sequel or a reboot / re-intepretation than a flat out remake. I mean Batman can haz re-interpretations as many as they could churn out and I'll leap them all. The Hunger Games movies are basically re-interpretations (or rip-offs) of the Japanese movie Battle Royale. They turned out to be box-office success.
Long overdue sequels are also acceptable to me, like the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 or Terminator: Genisys. Whether the movie turned out good or not is a different matter, original idea movies also can fail too.
But a remake of Flatliners? Who the hell approved this stupid idea? Lol.
A re-intepretation is probably what I mean. Take the source material and make a new, better movie with it.
I'm still not convinced that The Hunger Games are proper rip-offs.
I don't see why Blade Runner needed a sequel. Same goes for Terminator. At this point the time line don't make no sense.
True, original ideas can and do fail, but it is important to still give people a chance at making an original movie. If I want to see a bad Flatliners movie, I'd just watch the first one.
As for the approving, they green light these nonsense projects because people already know the name basically. So they don't have to promote it as much as something people are unfamiliar with. It's all about the bottom line.
Yea... but Flatliners wasn't very popular, was it? And even if it was, it's already forgotten by now. It's not like it's The Magnificent Seven (which also already got a remake), then I can understand because the value of the title alone is worth a few millions. And the original theme song may worth even more. Sadly, the result was (predictably) terrible, but that's beside the point.
Remaking Flatliners is like remaking... I don't know, Crocodile Dundee, or maybe A Walk to Remember, even The Bodyguard. Those were at best mediocre movies that somehow became quite successful at the time of release, but honestly... nobody really wants more of them.
I have no idea how popular Flatliners was. I think all they need is for you to have heard the name. They're targeting all the horror remakes towards teens that are very unlikely to have seen the originals, but would still have heard the names from somewhere.
All the ones you mentioned are movies people know exist. Whether or not people want more of them is another issue all together.
The It remake was (and still is) very successful though. So maybe there is actually people wanting more horror remakes. What do you think will be remade next? Poltegreist? Beetlejuice? I'm betting on Final Destination.
shareUm, Poltergeist has already been remade... But at the rate they're remaking stuff, I'd go with any of the late 90's/early 00's horror movies. Final Destination fits well. Maybe I Know What You Tweeted Last Summer?
The original IT tv movie is quite popular for some reason I believe. Plus, it has the benefit of being a Stephen King story. That adds so much to name recognition.
Horror, even crappy horror /haven't seen the new IT, so idk how good/bad it is/ will always be popular. Look at all the Paranormal Activity movies. On all accounts terrible movies, still very successful for some reason.
